My dd keeps hitting herself on her head

My dd is 11 months old, and is quite a happy, sociable little girl, but she's recently started hitting herself on her head. Sometimes it's when she's upset, but sometimes it's when she's playing or just pottering about. She doesn't seem to hit herself very hard, sometimes it's more of a tap. She likes clapping and banging toys together, or tapping the table - I don't know if she's just playing or if this is something I should be worried about? Has anyone else seen their dc do this? How should I react to it- should I try stop her? Or just ignore it?

Any advice welcome!

My DS did this as an attention seeking measure when he was upset around 12-14 months. My HV said to put him in a soft sided travel cot until the tantrum subsided - had to do it all of 3 times before he stopped! When she does it as part of playing I would ignore it as long as she's not hurting herself but if you think she is then just take her hand and away and say no, don't hit yourself in a really soft way - but don't get upset with her, she's probably just experimenting.

Thanks for these - I think she is just experimenting, but it's just really awful to see her doing it - makes me want to rush over and cuddle her and make her stop. But I just think that would make her do it even more - ignoring's probably the way to go.

Am off to bed now but any more advice/experiences v welcome.
