DD is 2.4 and just wondered if people would like to share their bedtime routines for their 2 year olds Smile we're struggling a bit!

DD is 2.3

30 mins of Peppa/Ben and Holly at 6pm
Bath at 6:30 followed by into pjs in our bedroom and a story all snuggled up on mine and DH's bed. I'm usually BFing the baby while DH reads the story.
After story it's kisses and cuddles and put into her cot awake. She has a muslin/blankie which gets snuggled and sucks her thumb to sleep.

We are very lucky she has always been brilliant at going to bed. Just happily talks to/plays with her teddies or sings to herself if she's not quite ready to fall asleep yet.

Pretty much the same now as it was at 2. Upstairs for a bath around 6pm. Then book, boob and bed, aiming for them to be asleep by 7pm. Don't do the boob bit now though as they are older Smile

Bath at six.
Milk on bed with story and cuddles at 6:10-15
Bed by 6:20.

Flat out by 6:30

Wine time.

We don't do a bath as it tends to wake DS up rather than make him sleepy so about 7:30 we do teeth then 3-4 books then into bed. He will normally chat to himself for a while before falling asleep but if he's having real trouble nodding off I'll go in and place my hand on his back or stroke his hair & sing a soft song to him which usually does the trick Smile

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 04/09/2014 20:26

Forgot to say we removed milk from the bedtime routine as he would only take it from a bottle and we didn't want him getting too attached to those!

After tea my eldest two do homework and music practise while 3yo watches television or plays. 7.15pm is time go up for 2 stories, milk, teeth, cuddle and sleep. Bath times happen every couple / few days.

HeyMicky · 04/09/2014 20:30

DD is just 2. In from nursery at 5.45, straight into bath. Downstairs at about 6.15, she has a little supper (cheese and fruit, water) while I do some dinner prep, put washing on etc. A round of (pre-recorded) ITNG then upstairs for teeth and stories in Mummy and Daddy's bed, in bed at 7.15

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 04/09/2014 20:33

DS is 2 next month - always been a difficult sleeper!
Current routine is 6pm quiet time, milk and Waybaloo/ITNG on our bed (then PJs and teeth after milk), (in reality he charges around climbing on me...sometime a bath if he's particularly grubby but he usually jumps in the shower with me in the morning instead these days!) then after ITNG into his bedroom (black out blinds shut, nightlight on) and we read some books. Cuddle and then cot. Sometimes he chats and falls asleep just after 7, sometimes he cries and he gets another cuddle/book/water then back into cot.
He goes through phases of self settling vs crying when we leave the room.
Usually sleeps through til 6.

dd is 2.4. routine been in place since 19m. was awful sleeper till that point then put her in a bed and it all changed!
in bath with baby ds at about 6.15pm, out then watch peppa or Ben and holly with milk and malt loaf snack. teeth brushed at 7pm then to bed with one story. then left to fall asleep. sometimes i hear her singing to herself gone half 7 but mostly i think she is asleep by half 7. i usually put baby ds to sleep about 15mins before dd is in bed so i can go say goodnight once ds has gone down.
dd does have some mad moments before bed but usually threat of no tv quietens her down!!

MewlingQuim · 04/09/2014 21:00

After tea we all watch a bit of family telly together and she has a bottle and a cuddle at 6.30-7.00pm on the sofa. If she is having a bath that night we have one together about 1/2 hour before bed. 'Official' bed time is at 8pm. Wash and brush teeth. DH and I read 2 books to her before bed on alternate nights. We used to sit in a chair together to read but recently she wants to lie in her bed while we read to her (just gone from cot to toddler bed) We usually get a bit of 'I dont wanna go bed' wailing once the lights go out, but she is usually fast asleep in 5-10 mins.

Occasionally she sings and jumps about until 10pm Hmm

We are quite flexible with our routine, though. If she is tired she goes to bed earlier, if we are out and about we stay up later.

Thanks everyone Smile it's amazing hoe it's all so different child to child. It's nice to hear other experiences too!

Dd is 2.5 - has two tv programs of her choice (currently always Nr Bloom and Melody), with a milk, and often sitting on the potty (her choice!) Then dh does her teeth and puts her in her cot. Done by 7.15. (We do read to her btw, just not last thing!)

MultipleMama · 06/09/2014 02:25

Twins are 2 this month and have been in this routine about a year.

6pm: Bathtime.
6.30pm: Tandem feed (bottle/breast depending on which parent) & story.
7pm: Bedtime.
12am: Dreamfeed.

odyssey2001 · 06/09/2014 11:16

4:45pm - tidy up toys
4:45 to 5pm - light tea
5:30pm - quiet time (board game, Cbeebies magazine, stories etc)
6pm - bedtime telly
6:30pm - teeth and wash
6:50pm - bedtime story
7pm - bed

BigWLittleJ · 06/09/2014 22:40

We have dinner at 5.30ish when DH gets home, then quiet play/wind down until 6.30/6.45ish. Both DS's (26 mos and 3 mos) then have a bath. DS1 sits with DH to have some milk and a story, before teeth brushing and into bed by 7.15. DS2 comes downstairs with me for a long BF then up to bed by 8ish.
