Hi there,

My 7 week old ds loves his bed time routine of nappy off and kicking, massage and bath but when he is taken out of the bath to get dressed he screams blue murder. We have the fire on in the lounge so it's lovely and warm, I try and hold him in the towel close to me, but I end up getting him dry and dressed asap and then cuddling him.

I'm sure this is common for most babies - but any ideas how to minimise the distress at this time? It's not a big deal but would be good to get some views on it.

DD2 is 7 months and still screams when we take her out of the bath to get her dry - makes me feel so mean as she is having such a lovely time (dd1 and dd2 get bathed togethger and dd1 lets dd2 play with her toys etc. - very sweet!) As soon as she is dressed and upright again she is fine? - bizarre or what? DD1 just screamed the whole time until she was about 9 months unless I got in the bath with her! - ahhhhh! Think it's one of those things you just have to grin and bear and get through and it will get better. You are doing fine.

Is he crying because he is desperate to get fed? Have you tried a short feed before the bath?

It's definitely a phase they go through - ds did it and I was staying with my db when his ds was doing it. He used to sing to his ds - eg whilst putting his vest on, he would sing "It's simply your vest" to the tune of Tina Turner "It's simply the vest" etc - sort of giggled him out of it!!

It won't last long - and you may or may not hit on what makes it better for your ds in the meantime

"simply the best" - doh

The ironic thing is that in all probability when he is a little older, there will be a phase of him screaming blue murder when you try to put him in the bath

I think your approach as described is just fine

thanks- good to know that it's not that unusual x
