Night wetting and pain in previously dry 4 year old

My four year old dd has started wetting the bed every night (for two weeks now) after being previously dry. Immediately after wetting She also complains of a very sore/itchy 'front bottom'. The doctor found no trace of infection. Her 'bits' dont look red or sore and there isnt any discharge. During the day she seems fine although behaviourly she is more difficult than usual.

MY dh is at the end of his tether and threatening to put her back in nappies, no amount of cajoling/waking seems to help HELP - have had a bottle of wine already in order to blot out this stressful period.

Have changed nickname for personal reasons, sory.

Did you look at her back bottom? Worms can cause them to wet the bed...

No havent looked there - what should I look for?? She is definite that it is her front bottom that hurts/itches though and doesnt complain at all in the day. I thought it might be bubble bath so she's had no soap in bath for last three nights, makes no difference...

I just googled and found this page - it says worms can cause cystitis but in that case you'd think she would be bothered by it during the day too.

Anyway next time she has a poo have a look at it (parenthood is so charming ) and if she has them they will be visible. If not I'm not sure what to suggest. Did the GP actually test her urine?

yes he did, thanks jan, I will examine the poo tomrrrow, can't wait. maybe 4 is just too young to expect her to be dry but she had been dry for months and months before.

No, if she had been dry for months then she was dry - to suddenly start wetting again is a symptom of something. Hope it is worms actually, it makes you cringe but is easily treated and fixed! Good luck

worms are certainly worth investigating but DS who is also 4 has recently started to wet the bed having been dry for nearly a year. Having discussed it with a few friends it seems their children also started to wet the bed at around 4-4.5 years and stopped as suddenly as it started. We had a 2 week period recently when he probably was only dry for 1-2 nights. He has only wet the bed once in teh past fortnight though. No explanation though.........
Investigate worms but otherwise see how she goes.

She's got worms! Never thought I'd be happy to see the little blighters but so relieved that it should be curable! I would never have thought to look so thanks so much janh.

Never thought I'd be so happy to hear it either! (Were you following her around all morning until she went to the loo?)

gave dose of medicine from boots yesterday morning and had no wetting or waking last night - she also seems much happier although this could just be a reaction to a much more cheerful me! Boots said not to bother with a second dose unless she is showing signs of reinfection - but I think as her reaction is so extreme I might dose her anyway after fourteen days just to be sure.
