hi my dd2 is 16 wks old and has been diagnosed with reflux. so she is likes to be in an upright position.

i was going to order a bumbo seat from ebay but then decided to get it frm mothercare. the manager there said that her physiotheripist for her child said they can damage the babies spine and hips.

so i didnt get one. but i just know my little one would like it because she would be sitting upright.

has anyone either used one or got any views on this
i would appreciate it. xx

hi thanks 4 everyones comments- i still dont know what to do. if someone i knew let me borrow one i would try it out.

but i dont really want to buy one for about £28 if she doesnt like it.

she has got the chunkiest thighs ive ever seen so im not sure after reading comments that her legs will actually fit in one. lol.

when i put her in her rocking chair she leans forward looking like she is trying to do a sit up so i think she would like to be more upright. xx

I tried ds out in one in mothercare - he seemed ok in it so then got one on ebay for £18 incl postage and packing. He will sit in it for a bit and then starts to arch his back to get out - I try to take him out before he gets irritated. He's 14 weeks.

Jeanini where do you live?

Nemo1977 · 18/09/2006 21:34

jeanini my dd had bad reflux and is also a sumo baby..lol Loved her bumbo until she could sit unaided. Do think borrowing one is a good idea..I bought one second hand and then was also bought one as a gift so we leave one at pil and will reuse for db if they like it.

bigbabygapmum · 18/09/2006 21:53

My son tolerated the bumbo for two mins maximum then arches his back to get out. wish I had never bought it. what a waste of money.

Rubystar77 · 18/09/2006 22:08

my daughter was great in it for a few months, it really helped strengthen her back muscles, , i think i used it 4-5/6 months and she sits perfect now, when she got to the stage off arching back we stopped her going in it. she used to sit and eat her toes in it!

juicychops · 18/09/2006 22:31

my ds sat in it for all of 5 mins when he was a baby then arched his back to try and get out. But now he's 20 months, he loves it!!

I sat dd in three in three different shops when she was in different moods before i bought online as it was cheaper, so maybe if you dont need on straight away and there are lots of shops near you that would work. Nobody seem to mind me trying either as it a new product.

We bought one for ds1 and I think he only used it a few times. The fact that he couldn't reach his toys when he was in it meant that I had to keep entertaining him or picking the toys up that he had dropped. I wouldn't recommend buying one to be honest!

I think the best use for them is when you start to wean, otherwise agree with other posters about various drawbacks.
it is much easier to feed a baby that is upright then slouched imho

f14 · 20/09/2006 06:28

I think they are amazin. My baby is five month old and cannot sit upright yet. He loves his bouncer since he was a bay. But now he tries to lift his head. Wants to sit up but cant cos the bouncer is reclining. I am definately getting one for him so he can sit up... will let you know how he likes it
