Undescended testicle in a 2yr old

Morning
My son is nearly 2yrs. I have recently discovered that he has an undescended testicle and have been immediately referred to a paediatric surgical urologist. Have now freaked myself out reading up on this a bit more. At this stage I don't know if the other testicle is up there somewhere, or what happens to find out. Read about laparascopic investigation to find out. Am now worried about scarring from laparascopic investigation - and from actual surgical intervention. Don't even get me started on having to have my little man put under a GA..... I know I'm being a wuss and am very lucky that he's been fine up til now and lots of babies undergo major surgery etc.

Just wondered if anyone else has been through this with this age group and if you would mind sharing your experience.

Thank you.

My son has a bunch of other medical stuff, but both testicles were still up aged 2 and he had keyhole surgery to look for them. Scarring is really minimal, I honestly wouldn't worry about it - at this age their skin is so good at repairing itself that give it a year and you'll barely be able to see anything even if you're specifically looking for it!
Before surgery they couldn't feel either one at all and couldn't be sure if they were there at all. Surgery was scheduled to take 45 mins to an hour but he was in for an hour and a half. They found one and stitched it down into his scrotum but couldn't find the other. Recovery was much quicker than I thought - I was worried about infections etc being under his nappy but no problems and the very small incisions healed v quickly.
Long term outcome wasn't great, but that was due to his other problems. Do you have a surgery date yet?
Take care
Lucas

Thanks Lucas - I'm sorry to hear long term outcome wasn't great for your little one. I know its a good sign that they can at least feel one (although apparently its too 'central' and not where it should be)

I think I'm just over stressing about it. We have an initial appointment on 18th Aug, so not too long to wait to at least get some more info.

Hope your little man is ok, thanks for your reply.

My friend's little boy had this. He had an op and was fine very quickly. I think he was about 2 when they did it. He is 4 now and there are no problems at all.

I feel for you Annie - how have you (and he) got on?
