6yr old striking out in frustration - what to do?

Have just informed DS (6) that i'm enforcing zero tolerance on his increasingly violent behaviour - it'll mean each offense reduces pocket money amount and has a timeout.

Any other ideas - it seems to be more frustration than anger that is causing the violence?

TIA.

We tried giving our dd1 a strategy to prevent her from reaching the point where she would lash out. We told her that if she felt she was loosing control to make a special hand signal,(often she was too frenzied to talk) which we would understand and help her to calm down. Usually this meant allowing her to take a few minutes with no stimulation of any sort, and keeping her younger sister away from her. Then when she's calmer, she comes and finds us and we chat about what happened. Works about 60% of the time. If it didn't work, we did (and still do) what you suggest. Hope this helps!

Thanks - yes that is an idea to discuss with him (at a non-frustrated time) and work out a strategy. We need it to work at school tho too but without making a big deal out of it.

I do wonder if he percieves that DD (3) is getting more attention/unfair consideration and that adds to his frustration.
