When/Where is best for first shoes?

DD has been walking for about 3 weeks now, she's still not 100% steady but getting there!

Up until now she's worn dotty fish suede soled slippers but they're getting trashed and don't offer much support or protection when outdoors.

We don't have any independent stores and I'm not keen on Clark's pink monstrosities.

Startrite have got some navy shoes, and are on sale online.

Early days Alex shoes are nice too. They are in trotters.

I've seen Happy Little Soles recommended on here before. Haven't bought any yet, but they look really lovely.

I have always managed to avoid pink shoes in Clarks. Dd2 currently has a lovely pair of navy first shoes from clarks.

Clarks are pretty rubbish all round. If you can't get to an independent shop then startrite are probably your best bet.

We have bought 8 pairs of shoes for our twins from Clark's over the past 6 months and we have been very happy with them. The shoes are lovely and the service in our local store is really good. Only one pair of the 8 have been pink :)

I think we can get Start-rite at Brantano?

I might take wander in to Clark's for a look but it just seems like everyone I know with a little girl has bright pink shoes from there.

We have Brantano, Clark's and another small chain store that sells Clark's for kids so not much choice.

I love the look of the barefoot shoes but would they be supportive enough for lots of walking?

The thing with clarks is that their shoes have no arch or ankle support.

I've not been impressed with their measuring service either on the odd occasion I've been in there. Plus I think you can get nicer for your money.

I'm overly in love with our local independent though Grin

Yes, 8 pairs! They need a new pair every 6/8 weeks!
