How to deal with DS's (3.4) obsession with saying "poo"?

My DS started repeating "poo" a few days ago. It is very funny to an extent, especially when he asks me for a "poo hug" or when he sings "Old Macdonald had a poo". When I asked him what he can say in French, he said "le poo". When I discourage it, he says it more. Ignoring it is having no effect. I try to change the subject when he has a poo outburst. Any suggestions?

I am laughing now at "le poo".
I'd settle in for a few years of it if I were you :)

"le poo", that is hilarious!

My son (nearly 5) is having a saying poo obsession too. I constantly repeat that the word is not appropriate right now, then strategically ignore.

My four and two year old are going through this delightful stage. Everything is poopy pants, poo poo head etc. So annoying, I've tried everything except taping their mouths shut.

Prepare for a few years of it. Ignoring it is best. and definitely don't laugh your head off at a poo-related witticism and post it proudly on FB oh no

DD is the same. Good morning Mummy Poo is what I get in the morning... I don't mind, she is 4!

The more attention you give it, the longer he will keep on doing it. But like other posters said, the poo obsession can last several years.

My 3yo DS2 is the same! He's been saying poo-this and poo-that for a few months now. Drives me insane, but makes me smile a little now knowing that he's obviously not alone in his poo obsession! His latest one is to call a boy in his class at nursery (Hugo) "Poo-go". Blush

Thank you all for your advice. Glad to know I am not alone as I haven't come across any other kids doing this. I am very proud of his creative uses Grin and more often than not laugh with him. What gets me is the spontaneity of the poo outburst - from silence to 20 poos in a row then silence. He decided to do this whilst waiting in a quiet but long queue. The man in front looked at us and shook his head. I can't believe this can go on for years Shock.

Poo-go - wonderful! I can imagine a name like that sticking.

Ah yes. With ds3 who is 3.5 we have had lots off saying poo, wee, fart etc for months now. Lots of farty pants which we believe preschool attempted to change to smarty pants.
Sometimes I say 'no thank you' sometimes I ignore it. I know that preschool tell him that those words are to be used in the toilet only.

It's just another phase before the next one.

Ds1 aged 6 is in the 'you hate me' and 'I never asked to be born' stage. Lots of fun :-)
