Bad idea to put DS back in pull ups at night?

My DS is 6 and a half and still wetting the bed every night - we took him out of pull ups a year ago as he'd had the odd dry night and was keen not to wear them anymore. We had a good stretch for a couple of months where he was dry quite a lot, then he reverted to wetting bed a few nights a week; in the last few months it's got worse and it's every single night now. GP has referred him to a clinic but in the meantime I feel as if I'm going to go insane if I have to continue to wash bedding every day. I know it could be a good while before we get an appointment there. Also anticipating being away during summer holidays and the difficulty/impractability of washing sheets every day. If he doesn't mind going back in night time pull ups would this be is a bad move ... I'd continue to encourage him to go to loo if he wakes in night and continue with the good practice in the daytime in terms of drinking etc. Any advice much appreciated.

As a stop gap, it's not neccesarily a bad idea. But--I'd strongly recommend an alarm. We got one from Health visitor and it worked wonders very quickly on DS at similar age.

Thanks cleanthatroomnow - yes am just seeing it as a stop gap really. I've been reading about alarms ... can GPs prescribe?? I don't have a health visitor that I could see.

Probably depends where you live....maybe call GP practice and enquire? You have my sympathies. You will still have broken nights with the alarm, as they are loud! But it worked quickly and was a permanent cure (in our case).

Oh lord not sure I can cope with a loud alarm! Currently having broken nights with 4 month old DD... Anyway will talk to doc again - many thanks for advice.

If you are having broken nights with DD you might want to wait awhile, we have just got an alarm for DD who is 7 and luckily she is only wetting once a night so it's not too bad but I wouldn't want to be up 2/3 times.

Best of luck with the GP - I specifically asked if I could get one prescribed or borrow one and was told they don't do that, it was confirmed by the GP whose own son is a bedwetter and she had bought her own.

I know how you feel about the pull-ups but if your DS is still wetting anyway and you all need a break then they shouldn't cause too much of a problem. As for the alarm, we have been using ours for 5 nights now and there is already an improvement, DD is a very big wetter but the past two nights there has only been a small patch.

Good luck, and wishing you some good nights sleep soon.

Thanks AugustRose - and yes I don't think I can cope with alarms and a night waking 4 month old! Will hang on a bit ... I actually have no idea how often or when DS wets the bed as he just sleeps through it and wakes up wet in the morning - I don't have to go to him in the night. Will see what GP says, anyway.
