Grumpy 5 month old?

Hi all, my five month old dd has been a bit out of sorts the last few days and the only way I can really describe it is 'grumpy'! She is quite clingy and crying a lot, and not laughing or smiling as much as usual. Is this normal for this age, or possibly a symptom of illness?
TIA!

Could it be teething? Is she dribbling at all?

pixiestixie84 · 08/07/2014 19:32

I've thought that but no sign of teeth yet and no excessive dribbling. I've downloaded the wonder weeks app and she is apparently she is going through a 'leap' but I'm not sure how seriously to take it...

Any temperature? We definitely had days of grouchiness with no discernable cause. Developmental leaps or growth spurts always felt like a reasonable explanation. I have no idea if they were accurate, but it helped me to feel less useless at the time.

No temp but she does have a cough. I just miss my happy baby!

Development - Rolling? Sitting up? Teething? Babbling? Awareness of world around them? Could be anything! It's such a guessing game.

My DS (5 months) has never got over 4 month sleep regression so it's causing havoc. He's up so much through night then is so tired during the day. Today he slept for hours at lunchtime screwing up feed times and subsequent nap times. Now he's wide awake singing in his cot and merrily rolling over and putting his legs/arms between the cot bars

Sorry to highjack your thread. It's pretty hard to spot these wonder weeks, isn't it? They almost roll into each other. I hope smiling baby returns quickly.

I had a 4month old the same, no signs of teething until bang on 20 weeks he pulled my finger into his mouth and OOOOWWW it was no longer just gum! the second tooth came at 21 weeks! I find that he coughs a lot if he's teething now, he seems to have excess saliva that runs down his throat instead of out of his mouth.

Re: WW, I not convinced tbh, it certainly seems sporadic.

Re: sleep regression, my now 23 weeker has never slept longer than 3 hours at a go except once when he went 5hrs and I woke him with trying to make sure he was breathing Blush Blush I do find that if he's been up more frequently than every 3 hrs which is most every night, he is a grumpy sod till he inevitably falls asleep on me when I need a wee and sleeps for a ridiculous amount of time.

She can almost sit up unaided, is pretty alert but not that into grabbing stuff at the mo, not rolling yet (a sore point, every other baby in the whole world seems to be able to roll!), so developments occurring. In terms of sleep, she's always been a great night time sleeper but the daytime sleep is all over the place! This isn't unusual for her though. Lots of mums I know have noticed that their babies are going through sleep regression at the mo though- hot weather?

It could be so many things. Have you been around anyone with a cold/bug?

Fwiw, lots of my friends have babies who don't roll yet and are 5/6months. it appears they can either almost sit or roll, not both.

It maybe she us getting ready to take a leap developmentally.
