Please tell me if this is bad

I wasnt sure to post this in feeding or here...basically my 7mo loves breastfeeding and sometimes it is the only thing that will comfort him if I am there.

Yesterday he faceplanted in the floor from his sitting up position. He is very strong and I was surprised this happened as it hasnt in a long time. i think he was reaching for a far away toy. So the crying ensued, he is a very sensitive baby I think and then the only thing that would settle him was the boob...which he was on for almost an hour! I'm not sure how much feeding was actually being done as he is usually on for about 10 mins so I know it was a comfort thing.

I guess my questions are is it bad to comfort him still on the boob when he is 7mo? Should I be worried about this or just go with what he wants? I've tried to comfort him in other ways and if he is just a little upset then a cuddle will work but sometimes only the boob will do!

Thanks!

It's one of the brilliant things though toddlerhood!!! Comfort is a big part of breastfeeding no matter the age of the baby. Great to calm a toddler though all life's little tumbles.

That's not bad at all Smile My DD fell off the bed (still feeling bad about that) and the only thing that calmed her down was bf. To be honest, I had wanted to stop bf at 5 months, so comfort and not needing to sterilise are the two big wins for me in carrying on to a yr. DD will need to get other forms of comfort at the childminder but hoping as she gets bit older, bf will give way to hugs...

At 7 months old, breast milk is still the main source of nutrition and while it's a big bundle of food, drink, comfort and joy all in one, it's far too early to worry about separating out its brilliant functions. My nearly 3yo feeds for comfort and it's a good thing.

That's what it's for!! :) No not bad at all. It actually has pain relieving qualities as it stimulates release of oxytocin which dulls pain and makes you feel comforted. So it's extra as good as a cuddle.

Great thanks! I thought I might be making it a sort of crutch for him.

Bertie that makes a lot of sense :)

Thanks!

I'm still worried he is never going to give up BFing...but not going to worry about that now!

Feed the baby.

He's tiny and defenceless.

I look back with happy memories to the time that a nice cuddly breastfeed was just the medicine to comfort my babies.
