Newborn schedule constantly changing

I have 6 wo twins and an almost 3yo DS and I had forgotten how much the newborn routine changes on an almost daily basis!

Originally the twins were on a 3 hourly schedule going from 3 oz to 4oz. 2 days ago they sort of put themselves on a 4 hourly schedule with 1 taking 4oz still and the other taking 5oz. Yesterday they stuck more or less to this new schedule until the evening when it became a bit of a free for all until 11pm when they finally settled down and went to sleep! Over night they went back to 3 hours but now seem to be back on 4 hours! Don't know whether I am coming or going! : )

It's not really an issue but not sure whether I should just go with the flow on the basis that whatever schedule they are on they are getting more than enough milk and growing well or whether I should try to force a schedule (waking up for feeds or trying to delay feeds etc)?

I'm sure at 6 weeks they will be going through a growth spurt. (my ds is now 5 months and it seems forever away)

my ds is now going through a growth spurt. His naps have all been out of sync , feeding more and quite unsettled. It usually lasts about 4-5 days so hopefully they'll settle down again soon .

All fun !

Not knowing whether you're coming or going will be a twin thing in general Wink. My twins are 21 months now but I remember the early days well!

They're at the classic growth spurt age so that may well explain the change. Mine were definitely feeding 3 hourly day and night at 6 weeks but I generally went with the flow. You could try feeding them 3 hourly during the day regardless and see if they'll switch to 4 hourly at night.

I kept mine on a strict 3 hourly feeding routine even if I had to wake them to feed (except at night). I had. to start our day at 7am to fit in all the day feeds. They fed 3 hourly until 6 months.

Looks like they have transitioned fully to a 4 hourly routine and (not wanting to jinx it) my girl has started settling for about 6 hours after her last feed so has been going from about 8 til almost 2am. If she keeps this up (and it's not just a fluke) think I might start dream feeding her to see if it misses out the 1/2am feed.

My boy has also transitioned to 4 hourly day and night, no 6 hour break for him!
