MY 8 MONTH OLD IS FREAKING ME OUT!

Whoops sorry for caps in title.

I know a lot of this is becasue my eldest has special needs but DD2 is freaking me out.

She's been crawling for ages and ages and has been cruising for a while and as soon as you put her down from carryting her she is off walking as you hold her hands, lightly. Then on Friday, and she did it again just now, she stood in the middle of the kitchen, not holding onto anything and then with control lowered herself down to a crouch and crawled over to me!
It's just so shocking to me when I ghave a 4.5yr old that can't do that.
And she can now wave and give high 5's on demand.
Oh abnd she climbs the whoile flight of stairs almost as quick as DD1 can.
It's unreal.
Is this really what it's like when yoiu have a NT child (nerologically typical as opposed to 'normal')???????
It's just blowing me away.

wow,
no, its not always what its like when you have an nt child. i have three, and none of them did this at such a young age. she's just an early starter. some kids do things earlier than others.
dd was mobile at 3.5 monhts. but the lazy sod wouldnt actually walk till she was well over one. almost 1.5.
enjoy her..
my god, doesnt time fly, i canstill remember you looking ultra glam when 8 months pregnant

Thomcat · 09/09/2006 09:31

Ho ohanan

Well someone up there is looking down and having a right giggle with us then. Sending one extreme to the other

She's going to be great for DD1, i hope

Oh here she comes now. It's like having a puppy in the house.
She just shredded the paper and now she's crawling down the hall doing a mad little funny panting thing she does when she's all excited and carrying a wet wipe in her mouth!

Mine's 9.5 months and doing the same as yours except for standing on his own. He also lifts the toilet seat with one hand and put his other inside. We bought a toilet lock now, so he sits down on his heals and pushes with all his might to get it open (to no avail). I think your dd is an early developer! I suspect if you ask your families one of you probably was an early developer too.

sfxmum · 09/09/2006 09:32

one of the children on my post natal group was walking fine at 8.5m all differentenjoy your baby

Nemo1977 · 09/09/2006 09:34

Thomcat it is what both of mine have been like. DD is same age as your dd2 and is doing the same and she is actually a little slower than ds was. It isnt normal for their age as its quite early but must be even more bizarre to you with having lottie.

Jimjams2 · 09/09/2006 09:36

I still find ds2 and ds3 completely weird!

Never goes away! (and its a mixture of happiness/relief and sadness often I think).

Twiglett · 09/09/2006 09:42

no such thing as normal TC ..

she sounds perfectly fine and really quite quick at grasping those motor skills .. it is about to get even more knackering though be warned

Scoobydooooo · 09/09/2006 09:48

Your Dd sounds very much like my own thomcat

Ds did not crawl till he was about 8 months, but dd has been crawling since she was nearly 6 months, she sits up, she stands up at the sofa & walks along it & stands up against anything & everything she can. She let go the other day & managed 1 step then fell to her bottom.
She amazes me i believe she is going to be walking very soon, she has always been desperate to be on her feet.

Dd can only do about 3 steps on the stairs thank god.

lemonaid · 09/09/2006 09:56

It's on the early end of the spectrum, but well within normal limits. DS was much the same at around that age. When the walking starts it progresses to running very quickly, so be warned...

kittywits · 09/09/2006 10:18

It sounds normal to me my 8 month old dd is trying to push herself up to standing in the middle of the floor, she's nearly there.

Thomcat · 09/09/2006 12:21

I kind of now it's not abnormal. but having DD1 around, well DD2 just keeps freaking me out. I can't believe it. It took months and months every day to teach lottie to climb the stairs on her hands and kness and she masterred it about 2.5 / 3 ys old, something mad like that. Now here is DD2 at 8 months standing up unsupported and shooting up the stairs, with months of intensive work

I think, like JimJams, it will always continue to freak me.

Thomcat - I sympathise greatly - DS1 (NT) was a 'slow' developer (actually he was just lazy - still is LOL) and never crawled, cruised furniture from 12-18 months and finally walked at 18 months.

DS2 (also NT) came along and withing 2 weeks of learning to crawl at 7 months was found half way up stairs, was walking competently at 10 months......shook my life up as you forget that a walking 10 month old child has much less awareness of "no" than an 18 month child

Thomcat · 09/09/2006 12:29

Yeah the saftey issue with a very mobile 8 month old is scary.

I think it's funny though. Hasn't yet started to upset me as yet but I'll bet my house that when DD2 starts to walk and Lottie is still on that bum, it'll choke me up.

Yes- I imagine that could be v hard, tc. They are both doing so well though. Love that dd2 reminds you of a puppy!

Thomcat · 09/09/2006 13:10

She'll grow up thinking she is a dog anyway as DD1 refers to her as "Sizzles" from Charlie & Lola all the time!

ohana · 09/09/2006 13:57

tc, she sounds adorable.

aitch71 · 09/09/2006 14:07

lol at the paper, thomcat. my dd sounds very similar, doing everything that yours is. it's amazing how they try a new thing one minute and then 'crack it' the next. freaks me out and she's my only one. hopefully it'll be brilliant for her big sister to see and be inspired by.

Jimjams2 · 09/09/2006 14:49

Prepare for it to often be sad as well TC. But nice at the same time.

DS3 overtook ds1 at about 18 months, now at 20 months he's streets ahead.

Thomcat · 09/09/2006 16:02

I will, thanks JimJams. I'll be over in special needs having a moment over there the first time I'm sure.
