Don't suppose anyone can help with this as I am blantantly flouting all recommended guidelines, but...

dd3 sleeps on her front (she is 18 weeks). BUT for the last few days she has been rolling onto her back and waking herself up. she is unable to get back onto her front so I have to do it for her - this now happens 3 or 4 times a night until she wakes up properly and needs a feed to get back to sleep

argh - she has previously been sleeping through

am knackered and cannot think of anyway around it (she is already in a sleeping bag btw)

Enid, this might seem a mad solution, but what sort of nappies are you using? I'm just switching to cloth, and in a nighttime nappy, there is NO way ds2 can roll over - they are quite bulky at night!

CountessDracula · 07/09/2006 09:33

Enid are you swaddling? That seems to stop rolling over IME

FillyjonktheFluffy · 07/09/2006 09:34

ack, see for dd and ds, cloth nappies provided a useful lever for them to roll over.

tortoiseshell · 07/09/2006 09:34

ohok, ignore that then!

Enid · 07/09/2006 09:35

lol filyjonk i fear that would be the case

its easier for them to roll from tummy to back I think

arrrrrrrrrrrrgh

OP posts:
Enid · 07/09/2006 09:36

cd I could half swaddle (she likes to suck her fingers)

dh says she is hungry whichis why she is unsettled enough to crawl around which culminates in the rolling and I should start solids

18 weeks????? You lie surely?????

Enid · 07/09/2006 09:37

no actually I think she is 19 weeks in fact

mad isnt it!

Time flies, cliche but true.

Not really got any advice tbh, dd1 stayed on her back then used to sleep sort of crouched with her bum in the air - looking v uncomfortable, dd2 has always slept on her back (usually on the sofa of an evening but that is an entirely different thread.....).

Half swaddle maybe or she could be going through a growth spurt and need those extra top ups.

They lull you into getting used to sleep and then BAM, start waking up again.

Nothing a bit of C&G won't fix .

xx

Enid · 07/09/2006 09:45

lol

will cling to the growth spurt thing and keep feeding

my poor boobs get so full as it is though they will pop if i start making more milk

Use a bolster/rolled up blanket in strategic positions?

I used to put DD on her side to sleep with a bolster either side. She really preferred it. She could roll a bit onto her front or her back without going right over.

Enid · 07/09/2006 09:52

that sounds great

what is a bolster though?

OP posts:
Enid · 07/09/2006 09:55

do you think this would work with a tummy sleepnig baby?

womblingalong · 07/09/2006 09:57

Hi Enid,

A bolster is a sausage shaped or cylindrical cushion - you should be able to get them somewhere like John Lewis. My daughter also preferred sleeping on her side, and I used to use rolled up blankets to prop her up.

HTH

Anchovy · 07/09/2006 09:57

I had this with both of mine - able to roll only one way, would roll over and get stuck (in my case it was from their backs to their fronts). Both had been sleeping through the night before and it was absolutely maddening! In both cases it lasted about a week to ten days and then they were fine as they learned either to roll the other way or it stopped bothering them. Hang on in there, as I'm pretty sure it won't last very long at all.

oliveoil · 07/09/2006 09:58

now I don't know if I would feel comfortable with a bolster with a tummy sleeping baby, what if their face got squished against the bolster?

Sorry if I scaremonger but I would worry.

liquidclocks · 07/09/2006 09:58

I used to put rolled up towels under the sheets (so he couldn't get smothered by them) and this worked - for a while!

liquidclocks · 07/09/2006 10:01

what about one of these ? If you put it around her tummy then it's notgoing to get in the way of breathing and if she did wriggle down it's supposed to have airflow.

Enid · 07/09/2006 10:02

yes its a problem with a tummy sleeping baby (pillows, bolsters)

I presume a bolster is quite smooth and hard though? if its round it might be ok.

thanks anchovy for that. It could be a growth spurt - she only tends to roll when she is unsettled

OP posts:
Enid · 07/09/2006 10:04

ooh liquid clocks that looks good

if it was around her tummy and not on either side of her head surely it would be fine - she could still lift her head/move it from side to side but not roll!!

OP posts:
Enid · 07/09/2006 10:05

so I could put her feet to foot laying on that thing with her head out of the top

OP posts:
Enid · 07/09/2006 10:05

actually she would crawl off it though I have just realised

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/09/2006 10:19

But, surely if she can crawl off it and move, then bolsters are not such a problem?

Enid · 07/09/2006 10:22

I DONT KNOW ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH am so tired

like the idea of bolsters tbh as presuming they are quite long?

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/09/2006 10:26

Well, I always used 2 large (cotbed size) folded in half lengthways, rolled up cellular blanket. One for each side.

To stop them rolling away from each other, I rolled one slightly around the other (it looked like that thing that liquid linked to).
