Too late for sling?

My dd is almost 7 months and is quite a clingy baby meaning I often end up carrying her round the house trying to get on with things with one arm. This is getting a bit difficult though and I often feel the strain on my arm/wrist. Would it be possible to introduce a sling/moby wrap now? I really don't know why I didn't use one from birth it would have been ideal.

I've got a couple of ring slings that I use for my 19mo. I use them for quick trips when she could walk but will probably want carrying at some point, popping into the shops from the car or for when I want to get stuff done around the house and she won't go down. I find them very easy to use. For longer carries I use my Ergo or Connecta (Connecta just now as it's hot).

Kerryp can I ask how old your little ones are? Neither of mine understood no at 7 months.

Not at all too late for a sling! Go for a sling/carrier that has a wide seat to support them in a seated position rather than a dangling position - it will be more comfy for both of you.

Rose rebellion we love! Moby go is their new buckle carrier which is good!
I carry both of mine at 16 months and my eldest is nearly 3. Xx

Kerryp · 23/06/2014 22:01

They are 3 and 6 rebeccamg, I shouldn't have said that as it's been taken too literally, what I'd meant is that kids need to learn that it's not always an option to be joint at the hip. I know people will disagree but it's true, you can't take a baby to the bathroom or out to take in washing when it's raining. Simply not fair, much kinder to put them in a high hair for a few mins at door with a teddy or some blocks.

Namelessonsie · 23/06/2014 22:09

I take mine out to get the washing i , in the ring sling. And many a time have I been to the loo with a child on my back or front :) normally asleep though

Namelessonsie · 23/06/2014 22:10

Quicker to pop in a ring sling than gather toys, shush, distract, pop back to shush whining etc.

Kerryp · 23/06/2014 22:15

Oh god, the washing I could handle ('though risking cold if it's pouring and baby just in a vest or something) but having baby strapped to you as your in toilet yuck. Are there no boundaries?

The baby is over a part of me that doesn't contact the loo, and asleep, what's the problem? It's not offending a baby's sensibilities, and not unhygienic as we don't have to have completely clean t shirts every visit do we! Or do you?

Quite :)

Namelessonsie · 23/06/2014 22:35

And better than if they're in a buggy and you have to abandon buggy outside with child in, or all try to squeeze in the cubicle and try to stop child touching many sanitary bins etc. nope, safely on back, easily fit in, can't reach anything yucky...

Kerryp · 23/06/2014 22:35

Not on here to argue, but no not for me. Lepas I wouldn't do that either, whenever I took a sling out and about I would always take a buggy so would have strapped baby in there instead.

Namelessonsie · 23/06/2014 22:40

Each to their own :)

But then I do love my slings, and hate having to navigate a buggy around things and find space to park it. So much so that I often tandem sling the 3 year old on my back in a mei tai, and the baby on my front in a woven. Carry the mei tai in my bag for when the 3 yo tires of walking :)

rebeccamg · 24/06/2014 10:47

We've done away with the buggies. Sling all the way! So much easier in busy places. Buses trains etc and on the tube - no faffing trying to find a lift. And yes mine come in to the toilet with me. I have to have one in with me as goodness knows what they'd get up to on their own!

Rtfairy · 24/06/2014 13:24

Thanks for confirming sling/carrier is still fine am just trying to process all this info then make a decision on which to get and order. Ha I would definitely go to the toilet with dd strapped to me better than hearing her scream in her cot Smile

I think I am going to either get a mei tai or ring sling or both!

Seriously get to a sling meet if you can, should be able to borrow before you buy. Lots of pre loved selling groups on fb as well :)

Namelessonsie · 24/06/2014 13:57

Oh and both :) different slings for different occasions :)

GoogleyEyes · 24/06/2014 14:09

I agree about a sling library - its like buying shoes. What fits one person beautifully is painful on someone else.

I've used Connectas and other soft buckled carriers at that age (not Ergo, too padded for me), but you really do need to try one. For example, I only found out that I needed petite straps when I went to a sling library and the nice lady said that if the straps went tighter I would be more comfy - I'd never needed petite anything before! And she was right, and I'm still carrying my three year old when she is knackered or poorly or needs extra cuddles. She mostly scoots, of course, but it's lovely to have the option.

Rtfairy · 24/06/2014 15:27

A sling library would be great but there aren't any close enough unfortunately so will have to take a chance Sad

Someone from your nearest one may be able to get to you though? Try posting on their Facebook page. I often meet up at a cafe with my stash for people who can't get to a meet. For free as well in case you're worried about that Smile

Where are you? I bet there is one nearby or someone close with a stash!
I found around 6 months ish my daughter and I couldn't get comfy in our babyhawk Mei tai so we got a rose rebellion then. About to get a ring sling too for quick ups and down. Just can't decide which. Hoping for a kokadi.

fledermaus · 24/06/2014 19:11

Google for sling libraries that do postal hires. I think there's one called "It's a sling thing".

Namelessonsie · 24/06/2014 19:58

Slingy folk generally love helping to spread sling joy Grin
