They're different. That's what it boils down to. We also find that ds responds well to certain things, which OTOH drive dd into a frenzy.

Step back from it, look at what you are doing/saying, and try to find a different approach. Don't assume that, because somehing worked or works for your ds, it will also work for your dd.

NotAnOtter · 05/09/2006 20:01

i always think threes are harder sorry!

albatros · 05/09/2006 20:02

I've no advice but would just like to back up your experiences with mine. The terrible two's were nothing compared to the traumatic three's

GeorginaA · 05/09/2006 20:03

There's a reason (sadly) that they're called threenagers. And I hate to put a downer on it all, but you've got the f*cking fours to come...

Peridot30 · 05/09/2006 20:06

albatros your not giving me much hope for the next year!!!!!!! lol at the moment she is lying on bedroom floor screaming and stamping feet. things can only get better (or should that be worse)

lalalandmummy · 05/09/2006 21:31

I have Jekyll/Hyde 3yo girl - angel one minute , complete nightmare next. i never know what sort of mood she'll be in , is this a girl thing! My son is very laid back.

Sunnysideup · 05/09/2006 21:33

peridot, you sent me off into a daydream about having a laid back, calm child........you just don't know what you're going to get, do you - I'm really laid back and equable, and have a DS who let's say, wears his emotions on his sleeve; he's not got an 'even' temper at all, he's very tempestuous.

laid back, calm......mmmmmm.....nope, just can't imagine it!

Elibean · 05/09/2006 22:03

Have been informed its hormones....and more hormones....somewhere between 2.something and 4.something they surge and swirl and do bad things to our beloved babies.

Trouble is, I'm pregnant - so my surging swirling 2.9-going on threenager year old dd and I are in hot competition for moodiness

Will try to blank the thought of future fours for a bit longer....

Sunnysideup · 05/09/2006 22:09

oh dear god when will the 4.something be for my ds??? we are only on 4.1, we may have months to go before he reaches the magical 4.something! Gah!

Posey · 05/09/2006 22:09

Another one experiencing the threenage. My ds is a real volatile character, but it does switch very quickly. We found that being really calm and saying "I'm ignoring your tantrum" and walking away really does help. No where near as prolonged as they were.

Peridot30 · 05/09/2006 23:03

lalalandmummy its definately a girl thing. my darling angel eventually stopped screaming, crying and stamping feet after 1hr and 55minutes! worst temper tantrum ever.
