Well, DD is 3.10.

Just interested to see if there's a norm or not.

Wow threepiece - what time does she get up?

My daughter needs more sleep since starting school.

threepiecesuite · 13/06/2014 21:44

Ah ok. I wake her at 7.45am in the week and she wakes up herself between 8 and 9 at weekends.

I'm expecting she'll need an earlier night come school in September.

BeatriceBean · 13/06/2014 21:50

We leave the house soon after 8 for school, so really need to be up by 7. We try not to change things too much at the weekend either, so I guess they're probably getting a similar amount of sleep.

LatinForTelly · 13/06/2014 21:55

Bath at 7, into bed at 8.

pigleychez · 13/06/2014 21:57

I have 2DD's aged 4 and 5 years old.
We wait for DH to get in from work for dinner, so dinner at 6.45 then bath and bed. Normally in bed for about 8 ish.

It can be abit manic but otherwise DH wouldnt see them at all during the week :(

tumbletumble · 13/06/2014 21:59

DS2 age 4.8 is asleep by 7.45

magichandles · 13/06/2014 21:59

DD (4.5) goes to bed at 7 and lights out at 7:45, she is sometimes fast asleep by then, and sometimes still awake.

GoogleyEyes · 13/06/2014 22:20

threepiecesuite I would love to be out later on these lovely evenings, but I've tried pushing it to home at 6.30 for bath and bed, and it's tears, snot, defiance and meltdown. She just can't manage anything later than 6.00 yet, and that's plus a nap most days and not a hugely early start. Dd1 had to give up her nap to start school, they just need lots of sleep.

jaundicedoutlook · 13/06/2014 23:58

DD 4.5. Supper 6, bath 7, bed 7.30 and up 7.15/7.30...

duchesse · 14/06/2014 00:03

DD3 (4y 9m) rarely goes to bed before 8. Usually closer to 9. This evening it was about 10:30 because she had a nap in the car on the way home from school. She will be up, bright and breezy, at around 7 (if we're lucky).

Was swapping notes with other parents at school only yesterday- many seem to be really tired and ready for bed by 6pm. My one is in full swing at that time and not at all tired unless she's going down with something. In fact the only times she's ever ready for bed by 7 is when she is sickening.

Thanks all.

Bedtime is 7-7:30, but it's starting to feel too early, especially for 5.5 DS. I wondered if we were perhaps a bit behind the curve, and putting him to bed at a time more appropriate for younger ones, but not so, going by this thread.

I think he, especially, might be ready to go a bit later. He's been saying he's not tired at bedtime, and then plays in bed, reads, wanders out to us, etc. He genuinely doesn't seem tired, except perhaps on Fridays after a week at school.

It's often 8 or even later that he eventually drifts off.

Maybe experiment with a later bedtime then. You can always change back! We find if we put DD to bed earlier than 8.30, all that happens is she plays for an hour or so and then gets bored, and that's when the appearing downstairs because she's hungry/thirsty/saw a monster/needs a wee happens. If we leave her bedtime until a bit later, she gets tired before she gets bored of playing by herself! Normally we don't go in and put her to bed - she puts herself to bed when she gets tired so once she's in her room that's it for the night.
It's what works for your child. I have friends who put their 5yo to bed by 6.30 and she sleeps through. My Dd just doesn't need to sleep as much. If she were late getting up then we'd rethink but she's not, and she doesn't fall asleep in the day either. And she's active and does swimming, ballet, tap, rainbows.... So it's not as though she's not doing the physical exercise. It's just who she is.
