My dd is nearly 2 and a half and nas never grown out of putting things in her mouth. The health visitor commented on it at her 18 month check and said she would probably grow out of it soon but she hasn't. Her other pals ofthe same age don't do it - I just don't understand why she does it as she eats well so it can't be hunger. Our 'what to expect' book says we should be concerned and we are. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments ? all ideas gratefully received xxx.

No suggestions or comments I'm afraid, as our DD who will be 5 in June still does it

Although most of the time it is her fingers now, to bite her nails

I thought this was normal for this age. On toys with small parts it always says"not recommended for children under 3 due to small parts" so this suggests they grow out of it at about 3.

my dd 21 1/2 months has and is still terrible for doing this. She puts everything and anything in her mouth and we have to be very careful what is lying around. My hv said it should start reducing around the age of 2 as I was also concerned. We have to be careful about what toys we buy and all she wants to do with crayons is eat them. She is not the least bit interested in actually trying to scribble with them. Mind you her back molars are coming out, it might explain why the "chewing" has increased lately.

I think they just really enjoy it, it's like a bad habit maybe, like chewing nails. Even adults still do that. One day they will grow out of it , I hope!!. Good luck.
