And other normal every day necessary tasks that are met with repeated noncompliance?

Turn it into a race: Let's see who can put their shoes on first!

If possible, let it go... what is the worst that will happen if he goes without shoes? His feet might get wet and cold, which is a good lesson. You can take the shoes with and put it on when he is ready.

Try a sticker chart: You get a sticker if you brush your teeth etc and a reward after you got 5 stickers.

Give 2 choices: Would you like to put on your red shirt or your green shirt? Do you want to bath before supper or after supper?

When dd was 4 we took pictures of her doing the typical morning things -eating breakfast, getting dressed, brushing teeth - and stuck these on her door. This interested her and encouraged doing those activities (for a while).

Wellies. Always wellies

I'd forgotten about the wet and cold feet trick! Funny how in the rush you forget these great little tricks. Thanks for the reminder!

And regarding wellies - what, use them as a treat or lob them? Wink

Don't bother with shoes in the summer! Or just wellies as Damn said.

I bought my toddler shoes she can put on herself. Makes life easier. It's either crocs or wellies. Prob not ideal but picking my battles!

Notso · 09/06/2014 20:01

I find pretending I have forgotten where they go so
"come on DS put your hands out and let's put your shoes on"
"Silly Mummy, shoes don't go on hands"
"Really? Where do they go?"
"Feeeeet"
"Your joking, on your feet, let's have a look"
"See, I told you on my feet"
Shoes on, toddler feeling triumphant, me feeling triumphant, job done!

Wellies are also good, my three and two year old wear them often.

Crocs, wellies, anything featuring Peppa, mice, bees, whatever her obsession of the month is. We buy lots of pairs of shoes!

tiredpooky · 09/06/2014 21:08

'i can hear your shoes calling your feet'
hold shoe and wiggle it saying, 'feet feet where are you'

DS chooses which shoes he wants to wear, however inappropriate for the weather. He's 2.

If I select the wrong shoes, I will not be able to get them on his thrashing feet. If the correct shoes are chosen, his feet will be presented with toes pointed like a ballerina ready to be shod Grin
