Not sure where to start-i've read couple of postings on the same topic-or similar but could not find an answer. I have two girls -older was 3 in august and the problem is she is still not talking-at least not the way she should. She does understand me and there are things she'll say but that is realy close to nothing, 90% of time she'll speak in her own way.The thing is , we moved year ago and our first visit to HV was disaster-i realy don't want to see that woman ever again and GP is refering me to seek help from HV cause she doesn't want to mix her job with HV job and i didn't complain to her about HV. The thing is i need referal for SALT and i am not sure what to do. Feel like i failed my daughter-we r multilanguage family and english is not our first l. So sometimes i thing she'll get it cause we r realy trying hard-reading , singing,talking...But still nothing much while younger daughter who will be two at the end of september she can talk a lot and even formulate a sentence-put the tv on mama or we go to park later...
I realy feel like i didn't do enough for her. Last night i was looking through the NET and found site which has told i can contact my local Primary Local Thrust and ask them for my local NHS SALT. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about that...THANK YOU....

Hi!
Yes you can refer her to Salt on your own. Does she understand but just not talk?
Why dpnt you speak to the HV thats what she is there for!

I don't know anything about contacting a SALT, but I do have story that you might want to know. An ex-student of mine told me that when he was 18 months, he stopped even attempting to speak; his parents eventually decided that it was because they were mixing Arabic and English at home, and he was getting confused. So they switched to just English for a while (though still speaking Arabic to each other, so he still heard it), reintroducing the Arabic to him when he was nearly 3 and talking well in English.

This young man is now an adult and an actor, and a stunningly good one (in both categories).

I'm not trying to say you should try this method or even that it worked (maybe it would have sorted itself out by 3 anyway). Of course seek help, but don't despair is all I'm trying to say.
