TAKING THE SIDES OFF THE COTBED! WHAT AGE DID YOU DO IT?

We have just taken the sides off DD cotbed she is just 18months but quite forward for her age.

What age did anyone else do it or move their DC into real beds!

Quite worried what I have let myself in for now! now!

dd went into a single bed with a bed guard at about 22 months I think (she was definitley not quite 2 anyway). She was getting increasingly fed up of being hemmed in by the cot sides so we figured it was time. She wasnt too bad at getting out of bed after the first couple of nights and she has generally been good about the extra freedom (she does have phases of visiting us at night but she just gets put back to bed and then she has good nights again)

Around 18mths my dd was trying to climb over...... think she could have done it aswell..xx

sleepysooz · 02/09/2006 13:28

I have just put twins ds & dd 2.10 in own beds and thought I would start without sides, and they havent fallen out yet!

Each person is different, I have a 10yo ds who still falls out of bed, (and he wants a high sleeper)?

Littlefish · 02/09/2006 13:28

Blimey - dd is 21 months and I'm not even considering it yet! Unless she starts trying to climb out, I'm hoping to keep the sides on for at least another 6 - 12 months.

PinkTulips · 02/09/2006 13:30

dd is 19 months and i'm starting to consider it but will put it off for a while as ds is very small and i'd be concerned she'd go to his crib and pull at him through the bars if i was asleep and didn't notice her moving around. and i dread to think what she's do in the bathroom! all those bottles of gunk!

Sophiev73 · 02/09/2006 14:27

We put our ds in a bed at 20 months and he's fine - except he got so used to sleeping bags he won't get out of bed in the morning (even though he can) unless we go in!! Sounds great, but he just yells and yells until we go in...!

we took sides off cotbed last week. just before his second birthday. first and second night perfect. third night fell out three times. next night fell out once and when i went to put him back in, he would not let me go... we out bed rail on the next day!

Pinkchampagne · 03/09/2006 10:24

I took them off DS2's bed when he was 3, but only because I was scared of him escaping!

Georgiesmum · 03/09/2006 11:22

Well last night went well. She fell out once but remained asleep! so we put her back in and she didnt fall out again. However she was at the gate shouting for mummy at 6am!! (she normally get upm 7.30am-8am) so I put her back in bed and told her it was too early. She went back to sleep until 7am and then got up and played for half hour so all told it went well....this far!

My ds (2.7) clinbed out of his cotbed for the first time last week. He had never seemed interested before, despite being physically able to, so I was more than happy to leave things as they were. However, I knew that once he'd climbed out there was no going back, so took the sides off and bought a bed guard that day. I was bracing myself for the worst, but so far he's been fine. He's gone down to sleep as usual, without a murmur, with no getting back up, but he is appearing in our bedroom between 6 - 6.30am every morning shouting "Make space for me!". He climbs in and goes back to sleep for half an hour. So not bad at all. I do think this is probably our honeymoon period though, so will be watching this thread with interest!

Good night again ladt nite

She went straight off, she did however get up at 1.30am and call me but because she couldnt find her yum yum (dummy!) she went back off until 7am when she woke up because she had pooped!

So so far so good!!

Potty trainings next!
