Yawning too much

My 6 month old DD yawns a lot!

I feel maybe daft for posting about this but is it "normal" for a baby to yawn a lot? What's she got to be so tired for???

Her day time napping has improved. She used to be a notorious cat napper having only 20/30 mins each time. Now, on average, she's have 40 mins - 1 hour in the morning,1-2 hours at lunchtime and 40 mins - 1 hour in the afternoon.

Each time she wakes up I always see if she wants to go back to sleep (as I know babies sometimes can have difficulty getting into the next level of sleep) by offering her the dummy, hand on chest, stroking her hair. But more often than not she's kicking away all excitedly and smiling, seeming wide awake.

So I get her up but within no time at all she's yawning lots.

In fairness if I've just got up I'll be yawning too. BUT I'm looking after a 6 month old (with all that that entails) and have been sleep deprived for 6 months. What's her excuse? ;)

Anyone got any thoughts?

It might be an attention thing? My DD coughs all the time. There's nothing wrong with her it's not a real cough but I read that they see how people react to a cough and want to get in in the action. It's a "social development" apparently. They just want the attention. I just think it's cute Smile

I am aware of the fake cough as my DD does this too. The yawning isn't fake though - you can tell a fake yawn from a real one

Apologies, it was only a suggestion.

Maybe she is a bit tired!? What time does she go to bed? Does she wake a lot at night?
