Constantly weeing 4 year old!

My DSD has just turned 4 and loves nothing more than weeing every 20 mins or so! I don't think it's too much of a big deal, she only does it when she's in the house and has a toilet to go to and not much comes

Sorry, posted too soon!

Not much comes out, however DP is a bit worried about it. Not being a mum myself I'd really appreciate any previous experience of this. I'm assuming it's something they just grow out of?

Does she drink huge amounts too? This could be an indication of diabetes.

Perhaps a trip to the GP?

UTI? I had one at that age.

LambCallaway05 · 26/05/2014 20:19

No, she doesn't drink anything out of the ordinary in terms of amounts. But her grandfather does have diabetes so is worth taking into account! If it were to be a UTI, would it not hurt when she wees? She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort.

I think DP needs to speak to her mum to find out if it's something she does just when she's with us, or if it's a constant thing. She always comes to me to whisper she needs a wee as DP gets a bit frustrated with her constant toilet visits and that can't be nice for her.

I don't really remember being in pain with the UTI - maybe mild discomfort. Nevertheless, I think GP is going to do an urine analysis for both bacteria and sugar, if you do visit, to cover all bases.

Thanks so much all, that's really helpful. I'll have a chat with her dad once he's finished story time!

It may be completely normal, but worth checking out. DS did some quite frequent weeing at one point, I think, but it went away on it's own.

Do you think it's just a habit she's got into? My younger sister went through a stage at around that age, where she thought she needed to wee all the time when she didn't. If your little girl only does it at home this is likely. If she had a health problem she would also wee when she is out. I wouldn't make a fuss of it and let her do it. Hopefully she will forget about it and stop the habit :) I think I went through it too.

I'm inclined to agree that it's probably nothing more than a slightly odd habit she's got into. However her dad is a little concerned and as she's my stepdaughter I'm acting in more of an 'advisory' capacity and he's the one who will make the decision about whether or not to take her to the Doctors. She whinges whilst we're out that she needs a wee, but we've never had any accidents and can usually be distracted which makes me think it's either a habit or as Toy says, a UTI which makes her feel like she needs to go, rather than an actual physical need.
