Dd is teething, and has gone off milk completely. She wont take anything from a bottle as it is really hurting her. I'm trying to make sure she has as many watery solids (melon, cucumber etc) to keep her fluids up, but I'm getting a bit worried now. She hasn't been drinking properly for 6 days now, but will take solids fine.

Is there anything else I can do? She is still having wet nappies, just not as many as usual. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Just to say, I have been giving her baby nurofen, and it doesn't make much difference. I think her bottom teeth are going to come through.

I'm not an expert at all but didn't want to read and run. This doesn't sound ideal to me, I think a 7mo needs plenty of nutrition from milk. Can you get her to drink from a cup?
It might be worth reposting in the breast/bottle feeding section, there are lots of experts in there. Good luck.

I had this with my DD at the same age. I read somewhere at the time that the sucking on a teat increases blood flow to the gums and makes it more painful. Dd1 went on total bottle strike. Have you tried a doidy cup or just plain plastic beaker? Make the milk nice and warm.
Putting bonjela on gums can help a little but I don't think it worked for us.

Add milk to all her solids incl yoghurt. Will make everything a bit messy but get fluids and milk into her.
Don't fight about it, just keep offering regularly and take it away again if its a no go. DD never took a bottle again, probably because we were so stressed and tried everything and everyone going. When we saw a GP and HV, they weren't bothered at all. Give her more cheese was all we got!

Hi thanks so much for the replies, sorry to only just be getting back to you.

I used a double attack of calpol and nurofen and managed to get some milk down her last night. She seems a bit better today and has taken a couple of small feeds.

She refused her sippy cup, but has taken sips of water from a normal cup.

She's had loads of watery solids today, lots of cucumber, tomato, pear, melon etc and is having plenty of wet nappies.

Thanks again.

She has cows milk allergy, so cheese and yoghurt are off the menu. Are there any other foods that I should try to get her to eat while she is off her milk?

Soy yoghurts ? Pasteurised goats cheese? I'd really head to the allergies boards though for a 7mo. Touch wood my kids have escaped so far so I'm working off theory based on older relatives rather than practice. You can't be too careful when weaning I think

My DS did this when he was 7 months. (Breast not bottle feeding but I'm sure it's largely the same) I made up food from milk so he was getting it that way, like porridge, cereal, mashed potatoes etc. and just kept offering him the breast (or bottle).

It didn't last long and he was back on the milk with no problems by 8 months.

My DD also has cows milk allergy and we've been told NOT to introduce goats milk products as its so similar to cows milk in terms of allergies.

Sounds like you're doing well with the watery foods. You could also try the organix apple purée pots Smile
