Silent reflux?

My little boy is 9 and half months old and ever since he was a couple of weeks old has been a screamer! He would scream and scream and we put it down to colic but now he still does it some days/weeks are worse than others but he will be halfway through his bottle or solid food and start screaming and throwing himself back he is so distressed and nothing distracts him! I have been convinced for a long time that it's silent reflux as he has hiccups alot, throws himself backwards, lots of trapped wind, coughs when taking his bottle! The doctors have been useless and say its a baby thing he will grow out of it or maybe it's behavioural I just wondered when he will be likely to grow out of it and any tips? Thanks!

Sorry sent that by mistake. To be honest he's been ok with teething so far. He sleeps 8pm-6am usually sometimes has a whine through the night but not bad. He has 2 naps usually through the day about 40-60 mins each time

Oh you poor thing! My DS had silent reflux. Thankfully we saw a wonderful doctor who diagnosed it straight away after hearing my list of symptoms at six weeks. He went on gaviscon at that point which did help for a bit but then the symptoms began to come back and he was put on ranitidine which helped greatly. We still had bad times but as long as his dose was right he was ok the majority of the time. I was constantly told he would grow out of it. First they said three months, then once he was sitting up, then at 12 months, by this time I was sick of hearing he'd grow out of it. He finally came off the medication successfully at the age of four!!
Tips, I would say the biggest one would be to see a different doctor, go armed with a list of all the symptoms (you've probably already tried) - maybe do some research as he may have some symptoms you didn't even know where related to the reflux? (Runny nose, hoarse voice, wheezing?).
Also try the comfort milks if you haven't already as they are a little thicker and easier to digest (didn't help my DS that much but worth a try).
Propping the cot up for when he's sleeping may help too.
Got to rush off now but if I remember anything else I'll post again!

Thanks I will try going back to doc and seeing a different one I just gave up on pestering them as I was getting nowhere! My health visitor was great and referred me to a dietician who said he doesn't sound like he has an intolerance and explained how his stomach is still develop

There's no harm in trying medication for silent reflux and see if it helps.

Silent reflux tends to go alongside cows milk allergy. Look into that too.

He has been to a dietician and when I told them the symptoms they said it didn't sound like he has an intolerance but I will keep an eye on it. I'm going to go to the doctor next week and ask about medication for silent reflux thanks :)
