What age did your toddler drop the early morning nap?

DS2 is nearly 17 months and still ready for a sleep at 9am for an hour as well as a main sleep around 2.30pm for 90 minutes. I'm sure DS1 had dropped the first nap by now and was doing an easy 2-2.5 hours in the afternoon.

I could do with him dropping it soon really.

both mine were around 12 months

JuniperTisane · 23/05/2014 09:18

So was DS1. I know its selfish but it makes the day more complicated than I could do with.

Sometimes my 19mo old still wants to have a morning sleepytime and shows me by pretending to fall asleep on the sofa with her lovey. And I need a cup of coffee...she can go without the nap but when we're both at home why not?

Mutley77 · 23/05/2014 16:18

My DD is 11 months old and still always looks ready for it but I have learned that 10-15 mins will tide her over (usually in the car or pram) and I can then get on with my day safe in the knowledge she will be reasonably tempered and still have a nice 2 hour plus nap after lunch!

Ohnonotagen · 23/05/2014 20:19

Ds dropped all day naps completely at 18 months, however he was not so much of an early riser so didn't get up till about 7.30 or 8

lollipoppi · 23/05/2014 21:53

Hey juniper, DD still sometimes has a morning nap too.

I would say 4 days out of 7 she has 2 sleeps.
I think as long as it's not affecting their night time sleep then it's doing no harm

Xmasbaby11 · 23/05/2014 23:31

By 1yo. After that she just had 1 hour after lunch. She was never a massive napper but ooften sleeps til 8am or after.

jasmine31 · 23/05/2014 23:34

Around 11 months too.

LittlePink · 24/05/2014 07:44

Mine was 14 months when she dropped the morning nap and settled into one 2 hour nap over lunch time.

JuniperTisane · 24/05/2014 09:02

Hey Lolli, I tend to agree with that but its causing some havoc in the mornings as we have trouble getting on and doing stuff without tears if I keep him up and don't get anything done if I let him sleep.

I might have to start manipulating it by 15 minutes every few days til the morning and afternoon naps eventually meet and amalgamate. Ideally I need him to sleep around 1-1.30 for a couple of hours.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Its very helpful.

At 14 months, they were sleeping until 7.30am though so no very early risers. They then would have a 2.5 hour nap after lunch.

slightlyconfused85 · 24/05/2014 14:40

13 months ish. She then went to a long one after lunch which she still needs at 19mo

Ilikethemoon · 24/05/2014 17:00

About ten months

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 25/05/2014 07:27

About 18 months

bigkidsdidit · 25/05/2014 08:12

Mine was nearly two! But at 3.6 he still has two hours after lunch now - he just needs a lot oS sleep. My 11 month old is no where near dropping it either.

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 25/05/2014 20:49

Not until about 17 months. Although I think it was out of habit then necessity, as he managed without a morning nap at nursery, and dropping it wasn't too much of an issue. He now naps 12-2ish, sometime from a bit earlier if he was up particularly early.

Oriunda · 27/05/2014 08:18

DS was about 18months when he went from 2 naps (usually 1030 and 4pm) to one nap. Depending on how early he wakes (any time from 5-6am) he has his nap from 1030-1130 though at nursery it's 1230. 11am is his usual time and he'll nap for about 2 hrs.

Poosnu · 27/05/2014 08:24

15 months. When she started waking at 5am I dropped it.

beccajoh · 27/05/2014 08:25

About ten months.

JuniperTisane · 29/05/2014 09:12

Thinking about it as he sleeps, he is up at 6am every day through necessity so maybe a 9am nap isn't so silly. Going from 6am til 1pm or later is a bit much for him I think.
