Early hours waking - baby

Hi there
If anyone could help I would be grateful!
How do you know if a baby waking at 3.30 every night is doing it out of hunger or habit? How do I get him to go through until more like 6? Baby is three months, takes last feed at 11pm (where it is so full it is fit to burst). I am thinking hunger because baby feeds every 4 hours in the day - and gobbles a bottle if I offer one at this time - but a couple of weeks ago he was sleeping through. Growth spurt?
Any pointers?!! Thanks so much

I think it's habit as we've had the same with DD (now 10 months old). Hopefully he will grow out of it. If he is hungry you could consider weaning at 4 months - we did this with DD and it was only then that she started to sleep through Smile

At 3 months old, i would say that if they are waking then it's hunger. Your baby is probably going through a growth spurt or developmental leap. Sleep doesn't stay the same for very long when they are little.

I can't see how weaning early would help with sleep, and there are also some possible risks with weaning at 4 months. With my ds weaning made no difference to his sleep.

There is a three month growth spurt so I would say that's likely.

My DS2 is 12 weeks on Monday and sometimes goes a good 8 or 9 hours at night, sometimes just 5 or 6. I just feed him whenever he wakes - he'll go through the night eventually.

To be honest, compared to DS1 he's a delight and even DS1 got there eventually!

3.30 I wouldn't consider early hours - that is the middle of the night !!! And at 3 months yes probably needs a feed IMO.

I hate to say this but DD did a few sleep throughs at 3 ish months but still hasn't ever reliably slept through..... She still fairly regularly wakes between 3 and 5 am and I feed her. I consider myself lucky that she then goes back to sleep until between 6 and 7. DS (now 5) slept through from relatively early but he always considered 5am getting up time and even with milk wouldn't go back to sleep - I prefer the up at 3 then milk and back to sleep personally!

On the other hand my first DC (now 9) slept pretty much 7 to 7 consistently from 9 weeks old!! And I did nothing differently with any of them - personally I don't think sleep training / withholding food does anything much other than cause the parent stress!
