Ds is 11 months, he has just started standing up on things and has been crawling since about 9 months but is getting round pretty quick now. I have noticed since he's started getting round more that if I shout his name or 'no' he has absolutely no response.
I could be sat next to him repeatedly calling his name but.. nothing.

He's all smiles and has good eye contact. He says mummy, Dada, hiya (whilst waving) to people, plays peek a boo with a blanket, claps hands when asked and wags his finger when I ask him to do tick tock (like a clock)

Other than this he has no words, I couldn't say get me the ball and expect him to do so, doesn't know what his feet or anything are yet. Should I be concerned?

I think he sounds perfectly normal! 3 or 4 words are loads for a 11 month old. Do you always call him by his name or do you use nickname/baby/darling etc? I think it understandably takes them longer if they have lots of 'names'

I thought DD still didn't know her name a couple of months ago and she is 19mths. A few weeks ago she started pointing to herself as saying her name so it turns out she has just been ignoring me. Grin

*and saying her name

ditsydoll · 06/05/2014 17:35

I did tend to use cutesie names but have stopped since iv noticed he's not responding, did yours respond to 'no'? Ds just laughs and carries on in whichever direction he's heading!

Wow!! I think all of the other things he does is pretty impressive - my son doesn't clap hands or wag his finger yet. He does wave but generally at random things like the calendar or trees rather than people...

He does turn around when I say his name or "no" - although he doesn't actually stop what he is doing!!

I'm sure he said poo a couple of days ago but hasn't since Grin

How old is yours widdle?

Sorry - he has just turned 11 months

ditsydoll · 06/05/2014 17:57

Ds has just turned, would you be concerned about the not responding?

Still no response to 'no' here. Unless she is saying it herself!

Ditsy I think if anything he sounds advanced, but if you are really worried you can ask your HV if you can speak to the local SALT to set your mind at rest. If there was a hearing issue I doubt he would be saying mummy/dad/hiya this early.

ditsydoll · 06/05/2014 19:06

Thanks ladies I'll try not to worry too much and see how he goes over the next month. If he's still not responding by one I'll probably go to docs

Mine's nearly 4. He certainly knows his name but practices selective deafness when I call it. Apparently teenagers are worse. Grin

Dd is 12 months and says dad dad and umphreeeee (Humphrey)

She will respond to her name

If I say no she ignores me and nods (yes) Angry

ditsydoll · 06/05/2014 21:32

Thanks for replies, I was concerned because not recognising name by 12 months is a red flag for autism.

Ds has made a liar out of me and answered to his dad calling his name several times today. I swear he tries to scare me on purpose!

Dd is 6 months and turns to look if you call her name. Obviously no words yet though!

widdle · 07/05/2014 14:24

Ha ha! To be honest my DS doesn't always look round when I call either - think they develop selective hearing at a very young age Grin
