So ... I'm ready to start weaning my 24 Week DS!

Can someone advise any typical days/weeks etc ie: what, when & how?

Any samples of experience would be great!

Are you planning on doing traditional purée weaning or baby led weaning?

FrankelandFilly · 30/04/2014 17:09

I've been given this book. I've read through it and it seems full of useful advice. Won't be using it for a while though as DD is only 7 weeks old!

If you're interested in BLW then have a read of the Gill Rapley book.

My DD is 24 weeks old and we are going to be starting weaning this weekend. V excited :)

I am planning to do a mixture of spoon feeding and BLW, but my gut instinct is to start her on something soft like baby rice. I have already made a few purees (apple and pear) which I plan to add to the baby rice and also to her baby porridge.

BLW appeals to me more though as like the idea of her being in control of what goes into her mouth, plus tasting the foods that we eat.

Like you I was unsure how, when etc and wanted a bit of a guide. Annabel Carmel has a guide in one of her books plus Cow & Gate do a free baby weaning guide which personally u have found really useful as its a step-by-step one. You can obtain from their website.

Good luck and enjoy

I personally would avoid baby rice. Good first foods are sweet potato, pear, avocado, apple, swede, carrot - either purée or in sticks (steamed/microwaved if necessary).

I prefer the strew food in front if them and let them get on with it approach.

I second the Gill Rapley book. I'm a massive fan of baby lead weaning. My DS's fine motor control skills improved dramatically after starting and he has so much fun exploring his foods. It also saves the faff of mushing up food and/or buying specialist food. Bloody messy though!

My DS didn't get too well with pure baby led. He was feeling, mushing and sucking the good but not eating enough.

I do a mixture of purée (now more fork mash) and finger foods.

Lots of the baby food websites have recipes that are easy to follow.
Good luck Grin

Important also to remember that for the first year they are getting all the nutrients they need from their milk so don't get too hung up on what they don't eat

naty1 · 30/04/2014 22:06

I would also avoid the baby rice (did this with mine)
I think maybe causes constipation

Excellent advice! Thanks as always :) am avoiding baby rice no one has a good word to say about it.
