Hypotonia

My nearly 8 month old son has been diagnosed with hypotonia and he has had a few sessions of physio which is helping him. Our pead has recommended tests n consultations with a neurologist' geneticist, neuro muscular surgeon n potentially a MRI n a biopsy. We are in the process of getting all these done.. Would like to know if anyone has had the same round of investigations ? My son has been breast feeding well.. Eats his meals has no trouble swallowing, recognises people, reaches out n grabs things and is quite alert. He loves to kick his legs in the bath and we are shortly taking him to a one one one as we'll at the pool. I would be very grateful if someone with similar experience could throw some light on this . Super worried

Hi, I hope that I could ease yours fears :)

My daughter was diagnosed with Hypotonia at the age of around 10 months. At the time she was a bit behind with her motor development, she was not able to roll over or sit without support. She also had physio and had all the test done to check for abnormalities. It's was a worrying time but if only I knew that Hypotonia did not mean that something was terribly wrong. All of my daughter's tests came back clear. She did go on to sit, crawl and walk as normal but was just 6-9 months behind the expected age that was 'normal'. She is 6 years old now and thriving, intelligent and turns out to be one of the brightest of her class :) She does still struggle a little with things like riding a bike and swimming but I have been told that it will come when she is ready. I really hope that reading my story reassures you a little. Although obviously I don't know your child or how severe his Hypotonia is, it does sounds good to me that he is reaching out and alert. I think that sometimes all the tests are usually a precaution just in case there was something wrong.

Sorry I forgot to mention that my daughter had blood tests for fragile X and chromosome abnormalities. She was seen by a geneticist as well as Pediatric consultant. She had regular 6 month checks right up to the age of 3 when she was discharged. She had always been a little behind with her motor skills but everything else fine. Still don't know the reason for her Hypotonia, so I just presume it's in her genes or something.
