How unusual is it for a 3yo to know left and right?

Just that really. My DD has known left from right since around her 3rd birthday. Apparently (according to SIL and another mum I know), she can't know this and is just a lucky guesser. Confused
Really? I know she has mastered this but don't want to get into any silly oneupmanship nonsense, so thought I'd tap into people's experiences on here!

*If you're holding them palm outward, I should say.

If she has any tips on how to remember I'd be glad to hear them.

My ds was fairly ambidextrous for a long time, so I wouldn't have helped him by telling him that he should write with his right hand because he might well have turned out left handed (plus I slightly wonder whether that rhyme came from the time when lefties were forced to use their right hands).

I struggle to get my left and rights correct, and usually have to check the 'L' on my left hand. I find mirroring difficult and get lost frequently. This annoys my mother who has a perfect sense of direction (she can always do north/south/east/west too). I think it's an ability/sense that you are born with. Very handy for some, tricky for others.

Interestingly dd1 could before she was 3yo, but at 5yo she seemed to have forgotten.
Dd2 could from before she was 2yo-she's missing her left hand and I think because there was a lot of talk about lefts and rights. She's never had any problems.
Ds definitely could before school, but I'm not sure when. He did a lot of marching being a soldier, and would shout to people "left, left, left, right left" and object if they used the wrong leg.

I otoh have never learnt to the point that if dh wants instructions and I say "left" he asks it I mean " that left". I just as frequently mean right. Blush

DS1 (3.8) knows because grandad lets him navigate in the car Grin

He can't write/won't hold a pencil though so that's no help.
