Help! Baby getting 6 teeth at once!

My dd is 14 months old and only has her bottom two teeth. She has her two front teeth, incisors, canines and possibly a molar (!) all coming in on the top.

She's been working on them for weeks and I give her about one dose of paracetamol every other day because I don't want to overdo it. I also apply oragel a couple times a day, give her cold teething toys, frozen bagels, carrot sticks etc but I am at my wits' end. She hasn't napped for three days and is in so much pain, constantly rubbing her face and sucking her finger.

What other steps can I try?

Give Her more calpol. it will help her sleep and then she'll be happier. My 10 month old got four at once last month, it was awful, but calpol twice a day for a week helped.

My DS got 8 in two weeks..It is up there in most miserable memories I have...It was awful so you have my sympathy...He is 7 now and I still remember it at 10 months

I agree increase calpol...I always saved it so he could have a dose when he went to bed...Maybe give her some at nap time...

I always liken it to having toothache would you restrict paracetamol to once a day for that...

be careful the teething gels can make them constipated which may make her feel worse.

Ha trust me, she's not constipated. You could set a clock by her bowels.

I'll increase the Tylenol then (am in the States) and see how it goes.

Paracetomol every 6 hours, with brufen in between - also 6 hourly but staggered so that the effects of one kick in before the other wears off iyswim

I had Orajel sent to me by a very kind friend, apparently that was from the states (it's an adult only thing here in the UK)

It's really woo and I don't really believe in the "science", but ds really struggled with his first two teeth. I can't say the rest have been a complete breeze but he's been much calmer and able to cope since I put an amber necklace on him. I daren't take it off to test the theory but I've heard the same from other people too. Worth thinking about at least.

I've been considering an amber necklace. Friends swear by them but I can't find any scientific studies proving they work. If this goes on much longer I might give in.

They don't work. Increase the meds - it won't be long now till they're all through. Miserable though isn't it.

Agree baby ibuprofen instead of/as well as the calpol. It works better for teething i think.

DS got 4 top teeth at the same time at around 8mo and it was hellish. There was a good 4-5 days when he was having multiple doses of calpol and ibuprofen every day/night. I didn't see the point in rationing it when it obviously made him feel better. As soon as you see the teeth breaking through she will probably feel better.

I don't know it there is any scientific evidence - and as i said I'm too scared to take ds's off now! First two induced hour-long screaming meltdowns where nothing would help and he scream to be put down then scream for a cuddle. The next 14 have involved dribbling, chewing, runny bum, nappy rash and slightly disturbed sleep - but no screaming ab dabs or indeed clear signs of pain at all. I've only had to give calpol when I can't think what else to do to help him back to sleep at stupid o'clock in the morning Easter Hmm

Chamomile powder is pretty good too - known as Baby Crack to some as it's a white powder that has an instant calming effect Easter Grin

missuswife · 21/04/2014 00:20

Actually I was wondering whether it's safe to give her cooled chamomile tea.

An Eastern European friend of mine has all sorts of cool teas for her dc, but I don't know what's in them!

Just thought I'd update that dd still hasn't cut any of the six teeth she's working on. They've been bothering her for a month now :(
