6yo mean girls?!

DD is six, and I'm starting to worry that her friendships aren't as healthy as they could be. A few times she's mentioned her best friends teasing or laughing at her, and I've witnessed a few uncomfortable moments myself, where they've called her toys babyish or complained that her birthday party was too boring. There's an adult intonation to the way they say it and it absolutely devastates her. But then other times they play nicely and are delighted to see each other.
I don't know if I'm being pfb and this is standard 6yo behaviour or if I should be encouraging her to make new friendships.

Small kids are inconsistent, brutally honest, living in the moment & therefore forgive each other far faster than we adults can.
A wide variety of friendships is always a good thing.

Do her friends have older siblings?

VashtaNerada · 18/04/2014 19:55

No they don't, but I wonder if there are older cousins or something as that's certainly how it comes across.

Just bumping to see if anyone else has thoughts about this. She was upset about it at bedtime and it's bothered me all night.

(Not that your comments weren't appreciated Holiday - I hope you're right!)

I have a DS who is six and yes, the meanness and teasing surprises me too. Another mum who has a daughter in his class was saying one of the girls who came to her DSs party was horrid and she's actively pursing other friendships for her DD.
