BRING BACK NAPS! help

DS 2.2 has abandoned naps for the past two weeks. He still sleeps a solid 12 hours at night and has a nap as always at the childminders' three days a week (1.5 - 2 hours, around 1pm). But at home he has just gone on total nap strike. WILL.NOT.NAP (even when he's spending all morning and afternoon complaining about feeling tired). He screams bloody murder if I put him in the cot and if I leave him there to settle he climbs out and falls on the floor. He is so tired and so grouchy it is killing us both. Any ideas? Is this a phase and he'll suddenly go back to napping as normal? Is there any special technique to force a toddler to nap?

Sit with him? That's what I did with ds. Basically had a light show, sat next to him and he would be asleep in ten mins.

I'm glad I did - he's 4.5 and still has the odd nap.

No advice my DS is 2.4 and peob hasn't napped at home for a year now if we go out in car he will sleep but if house or out in pushchair no chance. He sleeps 12hrs a night too and doesn't seem to need a nap so weve never pushed the issue but A little down time would be well appreciated.

My ds 2.8 had a brief nap strike a couple of months back. It didn't last long (thank The Lord!) Either nursery & us ask him if he wants one. He's taken to saying yes again.

Around the same time we were having a nightmare getting him to switch of at night & go to sleep.

At the time I googled '28 month sleep regression' & if t'internet is anything to believe it exists. Good luck, I hope it goes back to normal soon x x

I second lying together, reading books...also I am heavily reliant on my black out blind as the weather improves! Try putting him down later for a shorter nap maybe?

I had the same situation as you and to be honest I just had to give in and stop the naps. It was actually easier in the end than to have to 'fight' to get him to sleep. The grouchy phase didn't last all that long and he got used to staying up through the day.
With my DS I spent some time playing with him in his room with the emphasis on quiet time - puzzles, whatever, then tried to read him a story or two but he's never been one to sit still.
Then I'd make sure he had a bit of DVD time so I could surf the net for a while
It made sure he was in bed well before 7pm and fell asleep right away so that was good.
As he gets older you'll be able to do more with him - baking, sweeping outside, gardening, whatever he's into.

Our issue is that we have a DD2.3 who does still nap so we are kind of stuck in the house. You could always try going out for a drive/ pushchair walk if he's knackered and you think he needs to sit still

If he is climbing out of the cot then you need to move to a bed

Have you tried napping him in the buggy, seat reclined, maybe in front of the running washing nachine?

Or as Brook said, accept the change and plough through
