Is it really necessary to buy a bath temperature or do you just test the water with your wrist/elbow? Do you just go for "luke warm" water?

No. Just another bit of unnecessary kit and waste of money.

Just check the water with your elbow. And don't be surprised if baby wails if it's lukewarm. My two have always liked it warm. If baby comes out bright pink, that's too warm.

I do have a water thermometer from the birth pool - actually 37 degrees is a lot warmer than "luke warm", so I always go for comfortable for me rather than luke warm. Nicer if you go in the bath with them too.

I bathed with ds and we just had normal adult bath temperature, cold baths are miserable I don't know why it is suggested to give babies cool baths.

Sorry TheScience - what should be 37 degrees? That sounds very hot to me?

It's lovely and warm - body temperature. That's the right temp for both a birth pool and a baby bath.

We have one of those taps that has a temperature setting, we set ours to 38 degrees for baby, she has always liked a warmer than recommended bath.

I think babies are supposed to have baths at 36-38 degrees? I agree with the PP that this is warmer than you expect.
