When did your ds/dd start calling you mummy (or mama, muhmuh etc?)

DS is one. He is very very very nearly calling DH "dada"...but is only just getting the hang of the mmmmm sound, let alone making any mamamamama noises...and even further away from actually calling me anything at all!

I think ds was about 18/19 months before he started saying this. He said dadda much earlier - around 13/14 months.

OMG it took what seemed like ages for ds (2.2) to start calling me mummy. Daddy was said somewhere between 11/13 months but mummy was like lazycow about 18 months and boy was it a great day. Though now he has taken to calling me by my name (as all his friends do) which is cute but i will only be mummy to one little boy and i would like him to call me that for quite some time yet lol

CarolinaMoon · 21/08/2006 16:13

about 14mo I think.

He said daddy first of course

JessaJam · 21/08/2006 16:13

phew...so I can stop the self-flagellation then? And just carry on with the slightly looks towards DH?!

my friends DD is 2 and half and she still doesnt say mummy - she says nunny instead.

poopy · 21/08/2006 21:55

LOL vindaloo .... Nunney in our house is the name we give to 'ladies bits'

DS was about 14 months when he started saying mummy but DD was about 18 months ...

ds said muhmuh at 9/10 months before he said dada at almost 11 months.
he doesnt clap tho, which apparently he should at his age and he has only just started pointing at things at 13 months.

DS says "maaarr" which is quite sweet. He started at around 13 months I think.

DD used to call me Jo (well, "doe") as that was easier and she heard it more often. She started that at about the same time as Da-da, which would have been nice had either of us realised what she was saying . We did work it out eventually. When dh was yelling "Jo" up the stairs at me, and dd was standing next to him shouting "Doe!", the penny dropped.

Ds said about 25 words before deigning to call us anything at all. He said daddy first - my theory is that he didn't need a name for me because I was always there.

Toady · 21/08/2006 22:18

My DD3 now 8 months started saying mamamama about a month ago. I AM SURE HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS SAYING AND HE IS SAYING MUMMY

Mine was the opposite way round. Ds called me mum-mum from about a yr. But didn't say 'daddy' till he was about 18 months old. Up till then he just said 'brum', 'caca' (for the cat - called Cassie) and 'mum-mum'. Its only in the past few weeks (he's nearly 23 months) that his talking has really taken off.

ledodgyrobespierre · 22/08/2006 10:21

my 9 month old calls daddy, dada but he hasn't said mama yet, typical!

mabel1973 · 22/08/2006 10:57

my 20 month old has been saying dada since well before his 1st birthday, He can say Tractor, digger, truck, car..but somehow mummy seems to elude him.....
