I know the backchat is appaling. He used to be an angel too

I was warned this would happen but couldn't believe it. Apparently hormones kick in at this age?

I've just come from a thread where I bemoan my 7 1/2 yo's annoying behaviour. Tbh I was hoping things might improve a bit before he hits teens, but obviously not!! Do you ever look at other boys that age who are so well behaved and polite and think how is that possible? One boy in ds1's class actually says 'pardon me' - words which have never been uttered by my son. Usually it's WHAT??? in an irritated tone!

Ulysees · 18/08/2006 13:14

I wouldn't want a totally polite boy tbh. I think it's a bit unnatural. Ds1 is lovely a lot of the time and I'm hoping he's getting his teenage years out of the way early? If not then I'm sending him to a bootcamp somewhere?

Just hard at the moment, having to grit my teeth a lot.

My 10 year old has started to be really stroppy in the past few months. Big stomping around sessions whilst bemoaning how unfair everything is - he looks hilarious and gets even more cross because we can't help but laugh! He even threatened to run away because we are all so horrible, but ended up sitting on the trampoline with his back to us for twenty minutes instead (thank goodness). Am trying to be understanding of him - but he's really amusing to watch! He's lovely and polite to everyone else though, so I suppose I shouldn't moan!

Yes, I feel quite grateful that my ds is quite shy and polite to teachers etc. My other ds (5) is rude and violent. I shudder to think what he'll be like as a teen. I'm thinking Bad Lads Army!

Hi Scotchick - did you get your toilet fixed yesterday?

scotchick · 18/08/2006 13:30

Thanks for thinking of me! Not yet. I need to 'hover'!

Lilymae8 · 18/08/2006 13:35

Ah, maybe you should look at the positive side of the situation and see it as a chance to improve your balance and aim!!!! Sorry for going off topic.

scotchick · 18/08/2006 13:37

Doing amazing things for my thigh muscles. Sorry too, last post re my toilet...

Ulysees · 18/08/2006 16:14

I've just been on a cruise and had to do lots of hovering at different port stops

Yes! But it's a dd. SHe turned 10 last week but the rot started at 9. Sarky, rolling eyes, back chat. Like you said, lilymae, she's polite with other adults so I don't mind.

Her little sister imitates dd1's favourite sayings - 'face it', 'admit it', 'come on', 'more to the point' - all said in sarky, know-it-all voice.

Lilymae8 · 18/08/2006 17:18

Ah yes, pointydog, we get the 'sayings' too! "I don't really care, to be honest", "UNBELIEVABLE", "so what?", "get out of my headspace" (!) and his latest insult of choice "you TOTAL smeghead!", usually aimed at DS2. I keep threatening to get his baby videos out when his friends come round - just to prove how sweet he once was!!

cazboldy · 18/08/2006 18:16

What I find with my ds ( 10 in october) is how unpredictable he is. One minute he is lovely and the next he is in a major strop, sometimes with no reason!
Have to agree with the rest of you though, at least he is good at school!

tappy · 19/08/2006 19:02

hi glad to hear mine not the only one my daughter is 9 and driving me crazy with thinking she cool with all the sayings. 1 minuite she wants to be like a toddler and the next a teenager and the mood changes by the hour. i got a book yesterday from library called talking to tweenies which are kids 8 t0 12 years. let you know what it like

pointydog · 19/08/2006 19:49

I'd like to hear what you think of the book, tappy.

Latest dd1's saying, heard today: 'Try entering my world'. Now that's one I'll be using myself!

tappy · 20/08/2006 18:41

hi not had chance to get right into book yet i will let you know . that really made me laugh though think i just might use that one myself
