how annoying are boys?!

Have ds 7yo who is SO annoying! Not just to me, but to his friends, particularly girls. I remember being his age and the annoying boys in my class were awful - now one is my son ...if you know what I mean. I've explained about how his behaviour affects others, but it really is like he can't help himself. Boys are fascinating, they really are a law unto themselves. I know that no matter how many times I tell him off for annoying behaviour, he will do it again and again and again.

I've got a boy myself, but have to agree with Mogwai. Have got some friends that I stopped seeing with their children. Their boys were extremely aggressive/destructive/loud beyond any other children I've ever known - just horrid to have around. To the point where their mother used to escape from them - if we met up in a group, she get as far away from them as she could and let everyone else deal with the devastation. They've now moved away so don't see them any more anyway but apparently they've improved now they are 8 and 10. Unfortunately their 2yo brother is showing distinct signs of being just as bad, I hear!

They are the exceptions though, I know lots of boys who are lovely - annoying sometimes like all people but also funny/clever/kind etc. etc. etc. And girls who can be aggressive/destructive and all the rest.

I love boys! i have a 13 year old Ds and a 2 year old Dd. He was always more loving and gentle, she is a monster! Obviously i adore them both, she is much more spirited and independant than he was at that age .

I have always said if i had loads of kids i would rather have lots of dopey boys around. I can just imagine what a house full of teenage girls would be like!!

I know exactly how you feel scotchick,I have 7yo twin boys, who are completely mad.
Some days the bickering, arguing, fighting and generally winding each other up just really gets to me.
However,on other days they play happily together all day, leaving me to sit and read, just coming to see me when they want food or cuddles

I didn't mean that boys are more annoying than girls, just put 'boys' as that is what I have. Having been a girl myself, I know exactly how annoying they can be!!!!!! Boys just a different kettle of fish, never a dull moment as my toilet seat can testify!

Get a copy of Steve Biduphs 'Raising boys'. In it you will read all about the testosterone surge that boys have at around 7 years old.

My 2 little boys have played lovely together, and apart all day today. At the moment, one (age 6)is upstairs listening to the Lion King CD at top volume, yelling his head off, banging on the floor, making battle cries, playing with a battle figure with pegs stuck on it's arms to give it special powers!
The other (4) is sat downstairs watching Toy Story DVD sucking his thumb. lovely.........

I think it is wrong to generalise about either boys or girls. I know some energetic boys and girls and big personalities who could be classed as a 'handful' - I love them, they are great fun and fantastic to have around, if a little challenging. Equally I know some whingy and whiney boys and girls. I think it is wrong is to 'blame' parents, primarily it is the personality of the child not the parenting. I also think it is wrong to judge a child (especially not your own), chances are you see very little of what the child is really like and only see them in specific circumstances.

Frankly some of these thread are bloody annoying. They are children give them a break...

mumof3teens · 21/08/2006 09:47

I agree with misspiggy and dinosaur - I have 3 boys - 13, 15 and 19 who are all delightful in their own way! The 13 and 19 yr olds are very similar but the middle (!) one is v v energetic and mischievous. When I had just given birth to the youngest the HV told me "never mind you can always try again for a girl".........shocking.

scotchick · 21/08/2006 10:29

Cardy, ffs, give US a break! I know they are childen, but sometimes some of us can get quite low with coping with their behaviour. How great it must be to be you but we cannot all be so calm and well adjusted all the time. Frankly, I started this thread because I was feeling pretty down, and I've found all the responses to be helpful, just knowing that there are others out there who sometimes feel the same way. I love my children to pieces, totally and completely, but I do get bad days sometimes....

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound patronising. Don't get me wrong I have VERY trying days with my children and they are by no means little angels. I often look to Mumsnet for support. What I don't agree with is the generalising about what boys are like and what girls are like...they are all different.

I also object to it being down to the parents - as if partent are always to blame for kids behaviour - some kids just have big personalites.

scotchick · 21/08/2006 11:03

I agree with it being wrong to generalise the sexes, it's very much down to the child. The title of this thread was just a bit of humour as I was going mad at the time, and obviously I have boys.

It wasn't the title that bothered me, it was some comments in the other threads. I didn't mean my comments to sound so serious. I don't have boys so can't really comment on whether 7yo boys are annoying. However if it helps, in my experience ALL children are annoying at sometime or other and we all have those kind of days.
