Toys for babies

I've been looking through the toy/baby catalogues recently, one of the first times since dd was born, and I have been shcocked to see how many toy type things are available for babies under 6 months! DD has a play gym type thing, some soft toys, some cloth books and some rattles. She is 14 weeks old. Am I depriving her of toys? Or does what she has sound reasonable?

that sounds reasonable considering she is so young she wont really play much yet will she. but when she gets older she wil need more toys

Not depriving her at all. Save your money and look smug when the rest of us are trying to get rid of toys that we wasted good money on and that have hardly been touched.

Ladidadi, I don't think you are depriving her of toys at all...I am sure that she prefers looking around at this age than playing with unknown objects!!!
We decided before our DD was born to not surround her with too many toys and we are glad that at 1 yr old, she is entertaining herself at home with plastic box, plastic bottles, kitchen ustensils etc.. and we always let her play with newspapers, books.. she had her time when everything got in her mouth but she is now much better.. but everything i suppose has to be tasted and tested!!!
She has got toys given as presents and we do find out that she plays more with the wooden and metal one (because of the noise) than plastic ones.

when DD was about 6 months, I picked up a toy for her when I was out shopping. I gave it to her and at the same time she discovered a set of measuring spoons which had been a Christmas cracker present. Guess which one she gor the most enjoyment out of?! There are lots of things around the home to provide endless hours of stimulation. Oh and another thing - why are all childrens toys so brightly coloured - DD much happier with black and silver things - i.e mobile phones and remote controls...

I totally agree with you Laudaud

i bought everything i could find for newborn... and spent the first week trying to put rattles in his hand! They are now all in one big basket, and at 20 weeks hes only playing with a few! He has a gym, a swing and a rocker which have been great since birth, but I bought him some kicky gym and he HATES the loud music!
