Hi, I'd like to get my little one a nightlight but not sure what to go for - rechargeable, static , moveable, twirls around, throws light up etc... What have you guys used ? All advice gratefully accepted.

I wouldn't make a rod for your own back TBH. Best get LO used to sleeping in the dark from the outset.

Lindam two pack of blue glow night lights, heard blue glow good for mimicking moonlight, helping sleep?

We have a very dim yellowish one which is part of the monitor. It gives just enough light to see baby when we pop in to check on him. We also have a frog which projects stars onto the ceiling but only use it occasionally if baby isn't settling. This one switches off automatically after half an hour.

We got a rechargeable Mike out of Monsters Inc one for DS3 (Argos £17 ish?). Soft yellow glow that is just enough light for him to find his potty (toilet is downstairs so he has a pot in his room ATM)/drink in the night so he doesn't use the big light and wake us up. And its a groovy torch when you take it off the stand!

IMO the 'rod for your own back' is a bit silly. Nightlights can be great to give the feeling of security to some LO's. DS has always been a good sleeper but since starting dreaming has woken in a panic sometimes and his nightlight allows him to see familiar surroundings and fall back to sleep. In our situation its also about safety i.e DS not trying to get downstairs half asleep.

Don't understand the rod for your own back thing. Both my dc learned to sleep in the dark bit when they got to the age of about 4, I think when their dreams became more vivid, they started to be afraid of the dark. I remember this well too and so gave them a nightlight. They both sleep well without any problems. They will sleep in the dark if someone else is in the room too so it's not like they can only sleep with a light on, it's just security for them.

They have little ikea lights, they change colour.
