toddler not reacting to pain.

14 month old ds had a vaccination this afternoon and didn't cry at all. He also fell over whilst we were playing chase and he did cry lots then but he stopped crying when I picked him up and cuddled him.

He has cried a little at his previous vaccinations and he does sometimes cry when he falls over but often he bumps himself and doesn't seem to even notice.

Mil says that dp was very "brave" when he was little, she said if she heard him cry she knew it was really serious as he hardly ever cried. Dp's nephew (19 years old) fractured his cheek bone in a hockey match the other day, it looked terrible, swollen and purple but he said he was fine it didn't hurt.

Are some people genetically less effected by pain? I have read an unusual lack of reaction to pain can be an autism signal so I'm a little worried.

It's possibly just a high pain threshold. My dd1 is like that - if she says she is hurt I take it very seriously. My dd2 on the other hand is a very small hypochondriac .
I wouldn't worry too much unless he shows absolutely no sign of any pain at all (and according to your post he does cry).

I think children just have rubber bones TBH, DS was hardly ever bothered by hurting himself. And the power of a cuddle is literally magic at that age, it releases oxytocin which is a painkiller.

I am glad my ds isn't the only one who doesn't seem bothered about pain. It is handy as he doesn't tend to cry when he falls over he just stands up and walks off.

My DS just looked curiously when he had jabs. He certainly feels pain though!
