Just that really, at what age did they sleep through?

I've got a 9 month old and can't wait till that day comes (if ever). Currently on hourly awakenings so need some hope ... Smile

Ds has just turned 8 months and has only slept through this last week. We resorted to controlled crying though which worked within 3 nights. We were desperate and exhausted plus confident he wasn't hungry as is on 3 meals plus 4 bottles a day. Good luck , sleep deprivation is horrific Confused

GingerMaman · 02/03/2014 21:59

Thanks Clara! I'm really glad it worked for you Smile

DD doesn't eat much at all and is very windy so I don't feel confident doing CC at present. Im waiting to see a dietician and hoping she'll have some miracle cure ...

DS was 12 weeks.

DD was about 2.5 years. Wasn't properly reliable until she was about 4. At 8 she's great at sleeping :)

TheScience · 02/03/2014 22:01

2.5 years.

Finlaggan · 02/03/2014 22:03

DD was 12 weeks
DS was 10 months

We didn't do anything different with them.

Ragwort · 02/03/2014 22:04

Slept right through at 8 months but from 0 he only woke once in the night for a quick feed and went back to sleep. Smile

Iwillorderthefood · 02/03/2014 22:05

DD1 was about 12 weeks, DD2 was 2.5. If no matter what you do they do not sleep check they are not in pain. DD2 had such awful ear pain that she just would not sleep. She used to go off, the wake up screaming in pain. Horrible. At 4.5 she sleeps really well, goes to sleep fast and mostly stays asleep.

AnythingNotEverything · 02/03/2014 22:05

You need to define "sleep through"!

DS went 10-6 at 8 weeks (mix fed). DD was going 11-8 at 11 weeks (EBF). She's now in the dreaded sleep regression but is still managing 11-6 ish most nights.

My fingers are tightly crossed that this continues.

PenguinsEatSpinach · 02/03/2014 22:06

About 12 months (18 until she stopped waking at 5.30) and about 21 months.

PisforPeter · 02/03/2014 22:07

Are you breast or formula feeding ?
Breast fed babies tend to feed more frequently.
My DD was FF & slept from midnight till 5/6 am
from about 3 weeks. It improved from there but still sleeps well unless she is poorly. She is almost 2.
All babies are different though.
The best advice I ever got before she was born was to put her down awake so she learns to settle herself.
Best of luck, it's hard work X

BingoWingsBeGone · 02/03/2014 22:07

7-7

Dd1 7 weeks
Dd2 21 months

Bit of a lottery IMO. Dd1 may well have been an only if she had slept like dd2......

BagOfBags · 02/03/2014 22:09

I think the 1st time was when he was about 14 months! He's 2.8 now and still wakes in the night at least once on average 2 nights a week I would say (although it's been every night for the past couple of weeks).
Every hour must be difficult though. Hopefully the dietician will be able to help you. It was a combination of cutting down night feeds, working out that he has allergies and a bit of cc, (when I was sure that he was physically ok), that did it (kind of) in the end. It will get better though, just hang in there!

callamia · 02/03/2014 22:11

About ten weeks. For a whole month.
He's nearly five months now, and all that is a distant dream.
I'm trying to persuade myself that it's not regression - he's progressing into new and exciting stages of sleep cycle development. It's not really working. Every so often, he'll sleep for eight or nine hours, only to return to three-four (or worse) hours the next night.

YoHoHoandabottleofWine · 02/03/2014 22:12

DS1: 7 months. I got there by having a week of putting off feeding him for as long as possible (not really letting him cry, but putting him in the bed with me/giving dummy etc).

DS2: the above technique didn't work (I nightweaned him using same technique at 13 m but didn't stop him waking). About 24m for him to sleep through regularly. He has a cows milk intolerance and it was about the same time we took him off it (not that he had a lot, only cereal and sometimes in a cup at nursery, thankfully it was already goats milk at home that he is fine with), so I wonder if that was a factor.

Good luck, I hope the dietician helps.

Only1scoop · 02/03/2014 22:13

Dd slept through from around 12 weeks.

Fuzzymum1 · 02/03/2014 22:22

DS1 was 2 years old when we did controlled crying and finally got some sleep. DS2 was about 8 weeks when he stared going 7-7 and I couldn't believe my luck! DS3 was about 9 or 10 weeks when he started going 7-7 too.

clabsyqueen · 02/03/2014 22:22

DD1 - 2.5yrs and that's only 5 nights out of 7 I reckon.
DD2 - 7 months and still feeds 3 or 4 times in the night.
I'll be happy with anything less than 2.5yrs for DD2.

LotsaTuddles · 02/03/2014 22:30

Think DS was about 3 months the first time he slept through the night, has been doing it ever since (he's 6mo old) apart from the odd night where he'll wake up when DH's alarm goes off at 4:30, but he always goes back to sleep until at least 6:30 but it's normally closer to 7:30. He goes to sleep at 7:30 too.

I really don't know how we did it and I fear that our next will be the exact opposite

BikeRunSki · 02/03/2014 22:33

DS - 9 weeks
DD - 2yrs 4 months and counting

Cuxibamba · 02/03/2014 23:22

DS1- 10mnths
DD- 8wks, 8-8, and never stopped. I was very lucky.
DT1- 14wks
DT2- 12wks.

abigboydidit · 02/03/2014 23:27

My sister's kids all slept through really early.. It wasn't till I had kids that I learned her idea of sleeping through was 11pm-6am! For me, DC1 slept 12 hours straight at 9/10 weeks once and then consistently (with the odd night of teething) from 12 weeks. DC2 went 12 hours for 1st time at 4.5 months but then was really variable (sleeping through 2 nights out of 7 maybe) until about 6 months.

duchesse · 02/03/2014 23:38

DS: 2.5 yo
DD1: 4.5 mo
DD2: 24 mo
DD3: 4.5 y and counting.

I define "sleeping through" as bedtime till our waking up time (ie roughly 8pm to roughly 7 am).

BackforGood · 02/03/2014 23:40

My dc3 'slept through' (as in 11.30ish - 6.30ish) the first night we were home - threw us completely Grin
She has never slept a solid 12 hours in her life though, (and she's 12 now) so it does depend on your definition of 'slept through'.

Mrswellyboot · 02/03/2014 23:40

My DS is nearly six months and wakes at 4.30 on the dot each night. He slept through for a few weeks but that stopped

Bluecarrot · 02/03/2014 23:53

Apparently "sleeping through" is 6 hour stretch. Dd was doing this from 3 weeks. Now at 6 weeks sleeps 11 hours with one, sometimes two short (5-10min) feeds in between. Bliss.
We are just working on it starting earlier as ATM it's midnight til 11/11.30.

White noise helped us.
