Hi popsycal, rather than hijack that other thread about baby speech I thought I'd try to lure you into a separate discussion.

What's your ds saying now?

Dd has added to her repertoire of mostly approximate words, some 'real' words. The most sophisticated and cute of which is 'bicycle' said at about 3 times the normal speed and melting her dad's heart so much he wanders around immitating her doing it all day!

But we've also got: car, cooker, moon, star, bath, cooker, up, down, baby (said in a rather motherly way especially to boys about twice her age ... attagirl) and some others I'm too knackered to remember.

She's also coming on a treat with her animal impressions, thinking of putting her on the stage. Though the cat 'miouw' she does sounds like it belongs to a rather poorly cat, and the dog bark to a very small yippy sort of dog.

Still, it's all coming along.

How about you?

oh ds has suddenly taken off with speech. Lots of animal impressions his favourite being quack quack quack

but we have alsort now - the favourite being no no no - accompanied by furious head shaky
egg, clock (with the l missing!!!) dog, duck, cow, block, dinner, banana, grandma, boo, bob, boobah, two, yellow.....

that is for starters!!!!
it has suddenly taken off in the last few weeks!!

Evita · 12/03/2004 09:38

Yes, same with dd. Yesterday she stunned us by repeating back a few words we said which she'd never said before. 'Water' and 'cake' she said with quiet confidence. I read somewhere that between 18 months - 2 years they can accumulate words at the rate of 10 a day!!

Dd's doing v. similar things to your ds, we have a 'no no no' with frantic headshake too. The no is pronounced more like 'non' so maybe she's got a French gene. We've also got egg, cow and banana.
Pity they can't meet and have a chat about a cow and a banana.

Is your ds currently v. into cuddly toys too? Dd has names for all of hers and is kind of weirdly 'motherly' with them.

hi again evita - no - not into cuddly toys......,ore into cars and pink feather boas (don't ask!!). he loves stickers too!
oh and kissing his little 1 year friend!

Evita · 12/03/2004 20:56

Dd wakes up in the morning and lies in her cot saying over and over like a little robot: 'mamma! Dadda! Laa-Laa! Dodo! (doll) Doggy! Teddy!' until we give in and get her then we have to let her give a good morning kiss and cuddle to each of her 'friends'.

They're very cute at the moment, these little folk, aren't they?

They both sound wonderful
How old are they?

Evita · 12/03/2004 21:10

Dd is 17 months now. I think popsycal's ds is just about the same age. How about you?

popsycal · 12/03/2004 21:11

fairydust · 12/03/2004 23:07

my dd said back pack today off dora the explorer

Wallace · 13/03/2004 10:18

I only have quite big kids now (They will be 5 and 3 in the summer)
I look back to your kids' age with fondness!

wog · 13/03/2004 10:26

hi everyone dd is just a bit older 20 mnths, but like you are all saying her speaking surprises me evryday she started with words like mummy, daddy, and the favourite - no, but now she can string words togther. She now comes up to me and says things like "cuddle" and just now she stood in front of me with her trouser leg pulled up pointing to a scratch on her leg she got from falling the other day saying "better, better" arnt they so clever!!

Evita · 13/03/2004 20:27

Yes, they are clever. My dd's been chewing her thumb a lot with a molar coming through. Today she held it up in front of my face and said 'sore'. Very sweet!

One thing I keep wondering is when does dadda and mamma become daddy and mommy?

popsycal · 13/03/2004 20:30

ds's new one today is.....
anything that isn't yellow is:
lellow nooooooooo

wog · 13/03/2004 21:24

dd has started telling me me she wants "catooons"
"ooby doo" - thats scooby doo to us adults - I love when she says "es" in a high pitch voice that means yes and I love that she is trying so hard to say a full sentence in fact couldt you just eat them!!

Evita · 14/03/2004 20:10

popsycal, that's clever, almost a sentence! Dd has put 2 words together 'door' and 'out'!!

wog, dd says 'ess' and we've wondered for ages what she meant. maybe she's saying yes too?

RexandBen · 14/03/2004 22:29

My ds is also 17 months old. He also does the furious head-shaking - its so funny!

His latest word is 'Mimbaaaallllls!' (Fimbles)

CountessDracula · 15/03/2004 10:07

LOL my 18 month old dd does that too!

She has really started singing a lot lately, and counting.

She sang the WHOLE of twinkle twinkle little star, in tune, and most of the words right (ow I under ot you are!) over the weekend about 20 times!

I can't believe how cute she is with her talking. Isn't it adorable?

Evita · 15/03/2004 20:28

Wow, Countess, singing a whole song! Dd seems far from that yet, though she is gaining words at a pretty fast rate now, 2-3 new ones a day. I'd love it if she sang. When did your dd start doing that? Was she very quick with language?

OP posts:
Evita · 15/03/2004 20:33

By the way, does anyone know when they start saying daddy and mummy rather than dada and mama?
