wish someone would call me pencil bum!
are you already ignoring him?

sparklemagic · 09/08/2006 18:01

oh, bless him..

I had a friend whose DD was like this at this age, even when she was getting good full on attention she would just descend into 'rude' nonsense....dunno if it would work for you but my friend did do the ignoring thing! It took the patience of a saint though, I'm sure; but she just completely ignored her when she was like this and only gave her attention again when she spoke more acceptably...

actually I think what you've written down (while it must be nut-driving) could also be him experimenting with words, maybe he likes doing this (as well as driving you mad/being slightly 'rude') I may be losing my marbles but I think 'bogs is a bogey' is quite creative, mybe you should suggest he writes some poems! Or alternatively just ignore me as I do realise you may end up with rude ditties all over the house as well as a son saying this stuff!!! I just thought, maybe try and turn it to the positive by telling him he's creative! does he like books/ being read to?

following other posters, what about trying him with some limericks?
or knock knock jokes, that kind of thing
it does sound as though he is enjoying the sound of the words
I used to have the Puffin Book of Jokes, remember it as fantastic
there is probably something very similar around now

Uhhhh no advice really but my DS is 9 and he is still doing it but it is getting better slowly. Either that or I have gone brain dead.

brimfull · 09/08/2006 21:30

mellowma,my ds spends all day saying stupid rhyming words, both rude and not.It is intensly annoying and he does it at the most embarassing times ,I'm sure for attention.
He's only 3,will be 4 next month and now I'm depressed 'cos it's going to go on for yrs

What about some Dr Seuss? It might indulge his penchant for silly words in a more tolerable form?

niceglasses · 11/08/2006 08:40

Yes yes yes yes yes yes. My ds 6 in Jan is driving me nuts:

Coos cas, dippy nippy, marks and pencers, arks and encers, itish hume ores, (we were shopping yesterday).

Really I feel like killing him. Is it a 6yr old thing???? And then the 3 yr old joins in. Yesterday had whole day with the 3 of them out at shopping then museum. I kept having to ring my dp on the mobile just to have some sort of normal conversation.

At least his words are actually words used in the English Language!!!!
My ds the same age as yours says some really odd words that mean nothing in any language. They are truly made up words, he'll say something to his little brother like,
"Come on lets run, SCHWASSTEEEI" What the hell is that!!!!!!!!!!
Be thankful they are real words all be it silly words. They are obsessed with words like pooh, bum, boobs and winkle.
I hold out hope that "Schwassteeei" will change to pooh, bum face or winkle. Dp gets really annoyed with him, but I tend to either ignore it or just chuckle, he never really says it to me it is normally to his brother who is only 2 and probably thinks it is part of the English language.

Gotta be better than 'poo-poo head' though...
