Calpol & Nightmares ??

Has anyone else ever heard that calpol can cause nightmares in babies.
I'm a 1st time mum, with a 4 month old son who seems to be going crazy with his gums during the day. Since being a few weeks old he has slept right through the night from between 9-10pm til 6-7am in the morning, however the last few days the teething gel hasn't seem to be working so i give him calpol and he has been having really bad nights and hardly had any sleep. I heard that calpol can sometimes cause nightmares so today i have avoided giving him any and he has went to sleep with no trouble at all. So i'm now unsure if i should stop using the calpol on him all together.
Any advice would be greatly appretiated

Partly bumping this for you but also to say I've never heard of this. However - prolonged use of paracetamolin adults can cause headaches - just a thought.

Thanks liquidclocks. When i have give him the calpol i have only give him 1 dose of 2.5ml during the full day as i beleive it should only be used as a last resort, do you think with him being so young it could be enough to cause a headache??

fg could it be to do with the additives in calpol..i am sure there are ariical flavours in it so perhaps is stimulating him????
I have always used medised rather than calpol as I never found it very effective - (medised is paracetamol with a mild anthistamine so really good for colds as well as teething and general pain relief particulalry at night

ChiTownLady, i never even give the flavours and additives a second thought with me getting it from the doctor...I might give medised a go next time then to see if that makes any difference. Is this available over the counter or will i need to get it of my GP ??

my son used to ask 4 calpol every night going to bed as he loved the taste. doctor said could b addictive cause of the sweet taste!!!!!!

Never thought about the flavourings either! I don't think one day's dose would cause a headace btw, it's something associated with long term use. I get a different brand from my doctor that has no 'artificial' flavourings (I think it tastes like orange though). You could also try baby nurofen - my DS loves it.

sorry replying so late fg am in chicago - you can get medised over the counter...

My ds was sick with calpol so I gave him disprol which doesn't have the colourings and he's fine with that. It's available over the counter.

Thanks Girls - Since i've stopped giving him Calpol he's had no more troubled nights - I'm going to have a word with the doctor about getting something without the additives. xxx
