Day 2 of teeth

I can now see and feel a sharp little tooth. However we are now on day 2 of refusing food and milk. My dd had only 8oz of milk yesterday and today looks like it's going the same way. I've tried it warm and cold. She refuses water cold or warm out of a sippy cup or a bottle aswell. I'm getting more and more worried....what can I do to encourage her to drink so she doesn't become dehydrated? I'm giving her calpol which doesn't help and she is so grumpy and whinging constantly.

Maybe get a clean face cloth or muslin, soak it in some nice cold water and let her suck / chew on that? Might help with the discomfort and have the added bonus of getting a teeny bit of water down her throat! How old is she - would a home-made mini-milk style iced lolly be worth trying?

Failing that, when DS1 has been refusing to drink we've occasionally used a Calpol syringe to feed him a bit of water or milk.

As long as the inside of her mouth is moist and if you gently pinch the skin on the back of her hand it settles back straight away, her hydration should be okay.

DS1 (19 months) currently has a virus and is declining most liquids (and food - although apparently jaffa cakes are acceptable Hmm) so I'm also on a hydration mission!

My DD went on hunger strike when she was about 5 months for a couple of days she was just under the weather but I was beside myself with worry because she was taking so little. I put her down for the night after she refused her bottle again and when she was fast asleep just picked her up and put the bottle in her mouth without waking her and she took the full amount. Might be worth a try?

After a very stressful weekend DD is now back to normal drinking milk...but will not eat anything! She has a spoonful then flatly refuses. I'm now worrying about this but trying to stay calm as at least she is taking her milk. Could refusing food still be down to these damn teeth?

My DS is doing this at the moment and is most definitely teething. He will enthusiastically take milk (still BF) and water though and will gnaw on a toast crust, even if he's not really eating it. He's usually a really enthusiastic eater but like your DD, this week he's just having a couple of spoonfuls and then turning his head away. He seems to be fairly energetic still but annoyingly I think hunger might be contributing to his multiple night wakings and reluctance to nap for more than 30 mins at a time. It's been a week and a half and still not a sign of these bloody teeth Sad
