DS has recently started punching himself, hard, on his head/face. Anyone have any ideas why or how to get him to stop?

Is your ds 2 months old, or did you mean 12, or 20 months?

If he is 2 months old it will be pretty much involuntary and I don't think there's much you can do until he works out that his hands are his.

He's 2 months. It's always the same hand in the same place, it certainly looks deliberate but of course I can't be sure.

I don't think there's anything to worry about just yet Smile
DS is 5 months old and picks up his dummy and smacks himself in the face really hard at times which can be funny Grin

Does it make your baby cry or do they seem ok?

DaleyBump · 27/01/2014 23:23

He starts crying first then punches himself. Usually right in the eye, looks incredibly sore Confused

DD used to smack herself on the head at around that age. I just tried to stop her hurting herself, and she grew out of it.
I always thought it might be a learning about actions and effects type thing...

Oh bless him :(
When DS was around that age when he cried he would dig his very sharp nails into his face and cut himself really bad. Which probably kept him crying!
So it was short nails or mitts

All I can suggest is when he starts to get wound up is to try keep his arms away from hitting himself, although I imagine you're already doing that so my advice isn't great Confused

Fuck sake.

That sounds really awful. Thanks anyway, suppose we'll just have to ride it out.
