My 3 all lost their first tooth aged between 6 and 7.

chantico · 26/01/2014 09:34

Why does this need to be (lighthearted)?

It can be anything from shortly after birth (if born with teeth, they can sometimes wobble out early on or at any stage thereafter, though adult teeth wouldn't appear until typical time).

I think mine were 7ish.

But I think anything is normal up to a couple of years later than that, and it's unrelated to any other aspect of development (I think - perhaps if a dentist sees this, they post if there are any known correlations).

HoratiaDrelincourt · 26/01/2014 10:05

I am not looking forward to it, put it that way. Last year in Reception hardly any children had wobbly teeth; now in Y1 it's all I hear about.

But I have a real about teeth and might have to move out for a year or so until DC1's mouth is stable again. And then another year for each of DC2 and DC3 in due course.

I am uncowed by blood, urine, vomit, diarrhoea, pox, snot, etc. But teeth... ::shudder::

babyjane67 · 26/01/2014 10:09

Its lighthearted as not posted fora serious discussion on it just wondering as we including my dm whos had4of us think its quite early!
So was just wondering what others think

I don't think anything once Reception class age is "early" (this will happen to several in every class) and certainly not 5+.

You DD is both normal and typical.

CaisleanDraiochta · 26/01/2014 10:26

Both my DC lost their first tooth shortly before they turned 6 (in year 1) but they certainly weren't the first or last among their friends. I think anything from Reception age is considered normal.

After the bottom front 2 had fallen out though, it was a whole year before the top front two teeth came out. With DD this signalled the beginning of a whole load of teeth dropping in quick succession, which from memory is what happened when they first came through- bottom 2 only for ages then all the others appearing at once almost overnight.

DS has only just lost his top 2 so we will see if he follows the same pattern. In DD's Yr3 (7-8yo) class I'd say most now have all their front adult teeth.

shazbean · 26/01/2014 10:37

I had to have my last baby tooth removed when I was 18 as it would not come out by itself. I was gutted to miss out on my 50p!

Think ds1 was nearly 8! He was last in his class to lose a tooth and was getting desperate Grin

Ds2 was just 7.
Ds3 has his first wobbly one now at 6 1/2.

5yrs9months.

RobinSparkles · 26/01/2014 16:13

DD1 was 4.11. She's now 6.8 and has lost 8 teeth.

She got her bottom molars early at 5. The dentist said that they should only come through at 6.

babyjane67 · 26/01/2014 17:27

Wow robin so did she have to have any special treatment or did they just leave it?

OP posts:
CocktailQueen · 26/01/2014 17:29

DD - 4 yrs 8m
DS - not yet at 6y 8m!!

RobinSparkles · 26/01/2014 17:37

No special treatment. The dentist just said that we will need to take care that they're brushed properly as they've erupted earlier than usual. I might ask if the dentist if she can seal them next time we go so that she has extra protection.

The dentist said that DH and I have really strong teeth and hopefully DD will have inherited the same.

Emski76 · 26/01/2014 17:50

Ds1 is 6 and list two top front teeth in an accident at school last summer, no signs of adult teeth coming through. His bottom 2 front teeth are quite wobbly but have been since Christmas!! He can't wait for them to fall out, today he has asked me to wiggle them twice! His best friend has lost 4 front teeth is very quick succession. All children are different I guess.
Horatia, I am the same about teeth but funnily enough have been ok with ds wobbly teeth so far

babyjane67 · 26/01/2014 18:28

my dd lost hers just after her 5th birthday. A 2nd one followed in a matter of weeks. seemed early. My friend's son is 7 and a half and hasn't lost any yet. They are all different

MissMilbanke · 27/01/2014 13:54

I was told girls often loose them before boys (and in my vast experience of one of each - thats about right)

HSMMaCM · 27/01/2014 13:56

DD lost her first tooth approx age 8 and has just lost her last baby tooth age 14.5
