When do children start pre-school/nursery?

And school?

Been told the first is 2.9 or 3 years depending on birthdays but when does the term start?

The second is 5 right?

Dd was born in April 2012

Thanks Grin

If they're born after sept its the following term after Easter.

Otherwise its September.

I think. I have a 3yo born in January and will be eligible for nursery after Easter hold.

Still not sure though and I've already put 2 dcs through school!

(I was the one who sent their kids to school when it was holiday Blush )

It depends on whether it's a private nursery or a pre-school attached to a primary school.

My dd's private nursery doesn't close for holidays, and in theory will take children at any age (from 2yo) when a space becomes available. In practice spaces usually become available in the summer when the older ones leave for school and the classes all move up.

Some private nurseries take children from much younger too.

Pre-schools attached to state primary schools usually close for school holidays, and so will (I think) start from September, and the child will go for the year before they start school.

School starts in September after the child turns 4. So your dd will start school in the September of 2016 when she'll be 4 and a half.

Hols, not hold.

Ok so it's a pre-school in a church hall which will be eligible for the 15hrs free schooling apparently - it's not a day nursery which starts at 3 months as she has a childminder

They are entitled to the 15 free hours the term after they turn 3. So it would depend when in April they turn 3, before or after the easter holidays I think.
